Default is HOPKINS really that great ?

he lost to a 1-handed RJJ clearly and watching that fight he didnt seem all that good, ROY was crap that night too, he was KD'd against MERCADO and should of lost, his one notable win the 90s was his destruction of GLEN JOHNSON but OMAR SHEIKA beat him up too !

KEITH HOLMES, WILLIAM JOPPY, HOWARD EASTMAN - if they were around in 1990 they would not have been top 20 !

TITO, OSCAR, WINKY all former welters, superfeathers or superwelters

i was reading something EUBANK said about STEVE COLLINS "STEVE COLLINS in my opinion was a very ordinary fighter, who had been around for yrs without achieving anything spectacular"

who does that sound like ?

think of TYSON'S KO'S, BENN'S KO'S, RJJ'S KO'S, CALZAGHE KD'ING EUBANK, EUBANK'S fights with BENN (1) and WATSON (2), HATTON on PENDLETON, or just think about any top name fighter and they achieved something spectacular early on

    HOPKINS ? no

I don't care if a guy lost to a limbless mannequin....To be champion of one of boxings premier divisions for almost 11yrs and have 20 defenses puts you in the ATG catagory......

I echo Trainer Monkey's words...This thread has to be a joke

Omar Sheika did not beat up Glen Johnson by any means. Hopkins is the only man to really beat up Glen and stop him although Glen was game in that fight, Hopkins broke him down. Also Hop hadnt yet peaked when he fought Roy and it was still very competitive. Also the Mercado fight was a rightfully a draw not a Mercado robbery. Hopkins avenged it anyways like a true champion.

In RJJ's prime it was very hard to beat so loosing to RJJ period is nothing to be ashamed of.
The Glen fight was a prime example of things to come. How he fought and broke down Glen was masterful it's obvious your seeing the fight by names and not by what took place in the fight and how the fight was won.

We talked about this the other night what does the starting weight have to do with how a fighter fought years later.
Fighters like Duran, ODLH, Pacquiao started off at weight waaaay below where they evetually fought at but still performed well and became champs.
To think that you are talking about a fighters starting weight has everything to do with how they will fight years later is absurd.

No you did not just insult the Celtic Warrior
That's it now you pissed me off.
You should note that Eubank (as much as I like him as a fighter) is and will always be pissed off because he feels he was robbed.
Same way Hagler will forever dislike SRL.

If the alsmot 11yrs as a champion and 20 defenses is spectacular enough for you then you might as well give up now cause it doesn't get any better thet that.
One thing I will say is that you can take almost anybodys career and disect it and break down names but you gotta look deeper then that you gotta remember rankings, what they had done leading up to the fight among other things.

Although I agree with you guys that BHop is an all time great the OP does have a point about Hopkins highlight reel though.

Put it this way, how many of you would seek out his career set on DVD?

Why do you even bother Mick ?? DD is one of the biggest Jones Jr, Hopkins, haters there are and he knows more about Eubank than even Eubank himself knows he is obsessed with Eubank i don't take any notice of his posts they are ridiculous he thinks Eubank beat Watson in the 1st fight by a landslide

no this thread is not a joke, HOPKINS is talked about as the greatest middleweight of all time but based on what ??

personally i dont think he carries HAGLER's or MONZON's jockstraps. he lost to RJJ, MERCADO and TAYLOR twice and who did he fight between ? he struggled with ECHOLS who BREWER trashed

Hagler lost 2 fights contaversial or not, and drew with Sugar Ray and Seales Vito Antuofermo. And Monzon had 9 draws and 3 losses. But your right, neither of them ever struggled with a fight, only Hopkins has
