    Default "Check Hook"?

I heard Mayweather call the punch he used to KO Ricky a "check" hook...Anyone have any ideas or a decent explanation of this punch.

I found this on the dictionary

"A hook on the saddle of a harness, over which a checkrein is looped."

    I found this.

What is the difference between a check-hook and a regular left hook?

"A check hook is basically a mix of a hook and an uppercut. It comes in at a strange angle so it cant really be considered an uppercut. It's pretty basic you learn it in the amatuers, but even pro's make mistakes, which is why hatton took one to the chin."

    I often heard it called a hook-ercut!

Donovan-"Razor"-Ruddock's special punch was one of these, he called it the "smash" remember?

I found this myself in the aincient egiption boxing archives.

"Check Hook" refers to the aincient art of combining the magnanumous fource of a perfect left hook to the chin and the unyielding power of a beam guard to the forehead. It is considered to be 100% effective in KTFO your opponent.

To this day Hatton is the only known victim to have actually managed to get back on his feet after being struck by this most awsome combination. Though he was not up for long.

    Hahaa Cc!

Im not sure about naming it etc..Or whatever its all about bieng called the check hook..

I pretty much figured it was when you sidestepped out of range and threw the hook at the same time..

Sometimes you have to throw that shot when your finding it hard to get inside a guys jab and they coming at you.. You just throw quite a long left hook out and move out the way..

I guess the thing about it is its hard to stop it if you do see it..Which is rarely and why its quite powerful..its hard to pick off

I found it ironic that Mayweather fought two of the best left hookers in the game in back-to-back fights. In those 22 rounds, Floyd got hit with zero significant left hooks.

Yet, he KO'd one guy with a left hook.

If you watch the fight with the HBO broadcast team, you will notice that Floyd connects on a check hook in the THIRD round, and Manny says "Check Hook". I did not notice it during the original broadcast, but took note in the replay.

Those Michigan guys all learn the same stuff. They are so old-school.
