Default Lowest rated HBO boxing card in history.........

    http://ringtalk.com./index.php?actio...ents=1&id=1692

".... in a recent column at www.SecoundsOut.com Hauser says HBO’s research indicates that you fans care little about a PPV undercard. It was also revealed that the recent Joe Calzaghe-Mikkell Kessler 168 lb. unification bout was the lowest rated HBO Championship Boxing card in history with a 2.8 rating."

What does the 2.8 mean?2.8 million?I guess that's the last time HBO covers a big European fight without an undercard..

2.8 doesn't mean 2.8 million, I'm not sure what exact number it stands for, but 2.8 is just part of a ratings system used in the US.

I read that news about Calzaghe-Kessler a few weeks ago, and I was shocked that it was the lowest rated HBO World Championship fight ever. I mean, did more people really tune into Wlad-Austin than Calzaghe-Kessler?

I didn't expect it to get a high rating, because it was 2 Europeans, but it should have drawn more people than it did. Let's just hope it doesn't scare HBO from going over to Europe in the future, because the Calzaghe-Kessler fight defintely deserved to get a live spot on HBO, and it turned out to be an awesome fight that was well worth whatever HBO had to spend to cover it.

Says it all about HBO. Theyd rather put two average Americans on than two undefeated talented Europeans . They still think the rule boxing and are sadly wrong .

Joe vs Kess - was a great fight and broke the all time attendance record for an indoor boxing event . Yet some people couldnt care less cuz it didnt feature a bum like Manfreddo or some other reality tv star . Its a joke !

How can you get mad at HBO? They put on a great year of boxing and shelled out a lot of money for Calzaghe-Kessler to even happen in the first place. It just turned out that nobody watched the fight over here in the states.

Mayweather fans don't get as much press as Hatton's.

The fact that people think Hopkins stands a chance agaisnt Calzaghe proves that the high number of watchers is due to an American fighting.
Calzaghe Hopkins is pointless. Hopkins is a shot old man, Calzaghe would destroy him.

But they obvioulsy think more people will tune into than say. Calzaghe V Pavlik or Taylor.

I don't know how that is possible. My family had been talking about Calzaghe/Kessler for months. Then it finally happened and WASN"T on PPV. That had to be the coolest thing I had ever seen!

Makes a little sense to me they were both not well knows to a lot of people in the states i had people at my house that had no idea who either of them were. They are missing out though on one of the best fights and fighters out there. That will all change if he fights a hopkins or someone like that.

Did they live in a small bomb shelter?

I think this is unfair and premature.

If HBO stops doing European fights because of this rating, then you can throw this complaint at them. But they haven't done this yet. In fact, they're airing Povetkin-Chambers from Berlin, which is a much smaller fight than Calzaghe-Kessler.

Most of the free viewers and PPV buyers are casual fans. Casual fans will not know who they are on this side of the pond. They know the big names and that is what attracts them. Add to the fact that it is a historically weak division and that most of their opponents were also European or unknown Americans(Yes even Lacy was an unknown here to casuals) and you got a recipe for a ratings disaster.

This goes back to both of them never fighting in North America. They remain localized to Europe and because of that they got no exposure here. Sure they got some now due to being televised, but they still have a long way to go

Of course most Americans will think Hopkins can beat Calzaghe, they won't even have watched Calzaghe before. It's exactly the same as over here in the UK where all our boxing pundits and experts and every man on the street honestly thought that Ricky Hatton was going to beat Floyd Mayweather.

That's why they call it 'blind' patriotism after all
