    Default New guy, questions, etc.

Hey guys, i'm 19, obviously new to the board, and for the past year or so i've been getting into boxing (watching fights, reading etc.) ive never joined a boxing gym, although i bought a heavy bag last year that i occasionally hit for a couple rounds.

anyway, i've been running 3 miles a day for the past couple months but am still pretty out of shape (5'7'' 165). part of it is my build but i still have to cut a lot of weight. i go to college in the bronx and did a little research and am planning on joining a gym next semester but im still a little hesitant. should i continue my running regime for a couple more months before joining? i guess i just don't know what to expect at my first day in the gym. in the meantime, is there anything (aside from running) that would help me prepare before joining? i'm sorry if these questions are boring, but any advice would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

hey welcome to the board. Allow me to give you your first CC. Mate just do whatever Audley Harrison does with his career and you will go far.

This is exactly what i asked myself before i joined too. The answer is, just join. No one is going to laugh at you or look at you funny if you gas after a couple rounds skipping or hitting the heavybag. Nobody. You'll be alright. Also the training will only add to your conditioning. Baby steps my friend.

to be brutally honest, we all lookde and sometimes still do like clumsy childrent rying to master a new skill...the only people i ever see laughing in a gym are younger types that usually end up crying and going home after their first loss or rough sparring session...we all look a tad foolish when you consider all you know about movement will change the moment you start learning to box...just join and most important have fun
