Default How to start on the budget?

How do I start boxing? How much will it cost me? I want to learn how to box, how to avoid submission holds, and how to get out of submission holds if I get into one. I want to be able to defend myself if it comes to it.. I'm on a budget and can't spend much.. There is a boxing gym in my area, and a free weights gym where I live, plus I have some weights at home. I live in Aventura, Florida.

Where I live there are only two boxing gyms, kinda sad for a city of 300,000-400,000. At one it costs about $50/month, at the other there is a drop-in fee of about $12-$15, but its been a while so I don't remember exactly how much it was. If you're looking to avoid submission holds etc. you might want to consider MMA, because a boxing coach isn't going to teach you much about submissions.

No. I ride a bike, and got attacked by a driver. Although I'm somewhat bigger and better build, once he got hold of my right arm, I was unable to do much. I realized that I can't neither carry out an assault nor defend against one. I need to learn some martial arts.. I read in an article which martial is best for self defense, the guy made it a point, whichever one you practiced the most.. I better start practicing.

Krav Maga is a great form of self defence.

As for boxing i wouldn't really advise it as the first six months will be movement and covering up!

Something ultra aggresive like Muay Thai wouldn't hurt either!

I'm thinking if you're looking more to learn self defense, you should think less about learning boxing and more about some kind of self defense course or martial art. Boxing's a bit finite on what you can and can't do. In self defense, well, there's no rules whatsoever as to what you can and can't do.
If you can find a good school that teaches Ed Parker Kempo, I'd recommend that. That branch of martial arts is very good for self defense. There are plenty of others that are good too and it's not all that uncommon to find someone teaching at reasonable rates.
Sorry to hear some jerk attacked you. Submission holds can be a real bitch to get out of. The best thing to do is try not to get into them to begin with. Good luck to you.

    Well,
The best advice I would give would be...

Boxing with BJJ or Judo and lift and run.

TMA aren't the way to go for sd

take a course every once in a while from a tactical instructor

the army has shown in Iraq and Afghanistan that the best thing for unarmed combat is BJJ and Boxing which is the current modern combatives system. I'd blend the two.

Most boxers would kill most karate types in a street fight. If not BJJ then boxing and judo.

    good luck bro
