I thought that this fight had been cancelled in favour of a meeting between Cotto and Mayorga after a deal could not be struck between Cotto's and Gomez's people?

I saw an article on BScene where Bob Arum clarifies. He said Mayorga is a possibility but not until AFTER the Margarito fight OR in case Margarito loses than Cotto might face Mayorga instead.

As far as I know, Gomez fight is still on.

Oh and to Baby-Faced-Assasin, there will be no upset. Cotto will beat this kid up. Gomez will make it a good fight for a while but it won't be competitive.

I'm sorry I don't mean to be a stickler D**K,but I noticed you have julio Cesar Chavez with a Mexican flag behind him and an Irish flag right next to that.Your confusing man are you proud of Mexicans or the Irish.Sorry I just had to bring it up.

I don't think Gomez has the power to stop Cotto.

I also don't think Gomez has any speed to match Cotto.

I know Gomez does not have the experience.

I hope for Gomez' sake the ref is told to stop the fight early to save Gomez like Manfredo was saved against Calzaghe.

If Gomez were to beat Cotto, .... Who are we kidding here? Gomez ain't going to beat Cotto.

Guys all I can say is what about Williams vs Quintana.Be honest did any of you give Quintana a chance against Williams. The answer is no.The only thing we can say is what we feel but we will never know what's going in a fighter's head at that moment. All I can say is anyone with two fists and two legs in the same weight class, you'll never know what can happen. So you guys dismissing Gomez is kind of silly. The man from what I've seen is a very good fighter at welterweight.I didn't like him being up so high in weight in the Contender series, but the @$$ whoopin he put on Gatti was class A.Granted Gatti was over the hill, but it was some display of counterpunching.

I quite like Gomez, he makes for decent fights..

He's getting a proper shellacking in this one though.

Correction he does have the power maye even more it's just that Cotto is more technical of both. I do hope Cotto won't go at him like he did Corley.

I think Gomez might be the biggest success to come out of the contenders..and he is a good scrappy little fighter with a lot of heart but make no mistake about it he will have his clock cleaned by Cotto. Way too strong, way too much.

Im going Cotto by KO in 3th round , Gomez is a flabby guy that cant similate the body punches of Cotto , is slow and if he fight Toe to Toe with Cotto he going make his big ERROR and we know that this kind of fight is going happen , the Cotto style

I just get this feeling from these boards along with others. That this guy is invincible. This man can be beaten. We've all seen him down in 2 fights.Of course everyone will "Well he had a broken eardrum".B.S. He was simply because was beaten and got caught in both fights.Agreed he does look very good at welterweight.I just will not rule out a guy like Gomez.Someone who is strong, has a great heart, and doesn't quite.
