Default Segundo Mercado vs Bernard Hopkins 1 My Scorecard

    1 Hopkins 10-9
    2 Hopkins 10-9
    3 Hopkins 10-9
    4 Mercado 10-9
    5 Mercado 10-8
    6 Hopkins 10-9
    7 Mercado 10-8
    8 Mercado 10-9
    9 Even 10-10
    10 Hopkins 10-9
    11 Hopkins 10-9
    12 Hopkins 10-9

    114-113 Bernard Hopkins.

The knockdowns Mercado scored wern't quite enough to steal the decision IMO. Hopkins come on very strong in later rounds and looked on the verge of stopping Mercado, it was a very close fight and at least 2 rounds could of gone either way, especially the 9th in which IMO was very close with both men exchanging bombs and no one really get the better of it. I have never seen Hopkins look as hurt as he was in this fight, he was wobbled many times and he looked shaky getting up from the 1st knockdown as well. Overall a good brawl and Hopkins showed his Philadelphia heart in this fight to comeback and earn a draw.

A blast from the past.Good stuff Ice.Pulled the binders out from times gone by and I had this 114-112 Hopkins,Duplicate scoring with yours with the exception of 9th....Had it for Hopkins even with the "unintentional" headbutt .Alot has been said but Hopkin and camp made a dumb call by showing up in that elevation 3 or 4 days prior to fight.I really think Hopkins expected to KO Mercado early and took him for granted.Rugged fight all around and It was all down hill for Mercado after this.Rematch was ironically one of Hopkins most destuctive showings Imo,Brutal.

Yea i've seen the rematch that was one of Hopkins best performances, but what was shocking about this fight was that Mercado wasn't really a big puncher. Yet he was able to wobble Hopkins many times and even put him down twice with uppercuts. And IMO Hopkins has one of the best chins in modern day history of boxing. So it was quite shocking to see that, but one of the best rounds of that fight had to be the 6th, because Hopkins was floored in the 5th and was badly wobbling at the end of that round, yet he come out for the 6th like he hadn't even been hurt and gave Mercado a battering. I don't know what it is about Philadelphia fighters but they have hearts the size of Texas.

I am not a fan of excuses but man I really attribute alot of Hopkins Problems there on that crazy alltitude and Hopkins not preparing for It.I think it was a combo of punches and his equilibrium being screwed up.Ha Ha,there I go making excuses .With these exceptions and an after the bell bomb by Echols ,Hopkins has indeed shown an Iron Jaw.I agree with ya ,Mercado not a big banger, frankly somewhat of a winger in there late.Spot on...Hopkins whipped him in 6th,A different ref in a different locale may have called Mercado falling into ropes after that onslaught a KD.Think about it....we can honestly say Segundo Mercado...ugh... Gave Hopkins his most physical & toughest fight to date . Calzaghe Might have a say in that.
