He had good power before his hands fell apart.

That was meticulous work from Calzaghe. But Veit, has never been truly world class. And Joe has had to face him twice.

JC did have good power back in the day..floored Eubank in one and many more.
the last thing to leave a fighter is his punch (so they say) so with that in mind it goes to prove the hand problems are infact a definative reason as to why he changed his way of punching
No one can fault him for that and the thing that impresses me even more is the fact he's gone on to beat a way better pedigree of fighter WITHOUT the power he once had.
And some say he's not the real deal still

No, he's the real deal. You're right, it is pretty impressive that he's adjusted to having hand issues and stayed on top. It's just too bad he never fought great competition until the tail end of his career.

JC hit rather hard back then. The was virtually no slapping around this time... He was turning over his punches in this fight... I'll be the first to critisize joes style but this was the Joe of old... Prior to hand problems(he was having them at this time but hadn't changed his style totally yet. He risked his hands in many fights prior to fully adopting his new style)

This is true. He could have beaten most if not all of the best out there in his prime yet was protected............well, we won't harp on this again...

Well see this is tough... Joe still has his stamina... He showed it in the Lacy fight... Though that was a while back at that.

Joe loves come forward fighters baut the fact is that if Kelly keeps the fight at range he wins... If Joe keeps doing that fall in shit like he's been up to of late he's gonna catch a straight right down the pipe(but most likely an upercut ).

Does Calzaghe have the ability to still beat a young strong guy that has great stamina himself? Sure... He beat Kessler who IMO is the future(if he ever gets his head back in the game) of the SMW Div.

If this fight were on Pavik's soul purpose should be not allowing Joe to close the gap and fight at range... Should the fight creep closer it will allow JC to rip those quick flurrys... But lets all remember how Kessler began to fade after the 6th. Kelly doesn't fade. Kelly doesn't EVER stop trying.

This would be a great fight!

So in answering your question in could he beat Kelly? Anything's possible and Joe is very skilled... I'd like to think his best days are behind him and that a KO loss to Pavlik is not how Joe wants to end his carreer cuz that too is a great possibility.

I think Pavlik has the perfect style for Calzaghe to look good against and knowing Calzaghe he will mix it up. The fight would be a war and needs to happen. Would be the biggest and best fight of 09.

If Pav catches a guy like that its over. Calzaghe comes in at you low and at angles. He always seems to lead with his head.
Here is Roy Jones Jr in his prime up with better compation.

here is a vid of a pre primed Pavlik (pre primed is when Calzaghe wanted to fight him)
