    Default Help me with this.

Why is it that I never see punches coming, when I am trying to slip. Should I wait until the later rounds when he is fatigued, then slip his slower punches? I think it is impossible to see first round jabs coming, if it is not, can you tell me how this is done?

    not impossible atall

yoy have the predict what they are trying tho throw man.
its celar when they are going to attack, mos people move forward violently
most people (unless your sparring a pchyco) will lead with the jab, so ducking is good.
bear in mind tho that often people notice your continuas ducking and hit low so you bring your head into their attack

But if you both are in the boxing zone (punching range) and he's throwing jabs, how can you see them coming, and you have to be in the boxing zone to counterpunch, right?

    it all will come naturaly.
after some time of sparring you'll just do it, not even knowing what made you know he was jabbing,
cuz i dont realy know what makes me think/know the jab is comming.

just spar alot and when hitting the mits tell your partner to throw some jabs and hooks in between your combo's, when you master this after some practice, tell em to also throw some during your combo's.
not every combo but just randomly as he pleases, to check if you still pay attention, and not just on your self.

you'll see them shots comming in no time.
and getting a punch in is not the end of the world, it is how you act on that punch

    hope this helps

I'm a 5'11 welterweight with hella punchin power and above average speed, but I'm no andre ward. After watching tuesday night fights on espn 2, I was watching this dude counterpunch, it seemed like he stood outta the dude's range by a few inches when he was trying to counterpunch, I always thought you had to be in range to counterpunch, maybe this was my problem? I was too close? I dont know...where do you all stand do when u counter punch?

One thing I've learnt is that some people will have a "tell" of when they are about to jab or throw something. Some you can time, some will stop for a sec, some will start dancing...know what I mean? I'm no expert myself, but you will develop the instinct..
