FOX Sports on MSN - Boxing - Report: Diaz in brain surgery after collapse in ring
This is sad, we were talking about this in the WNF thread. I'm going to repost my comment here, in case no one reads it in that thread.
When that happened last night, I just looked at Diaz, and immediately thought that he looked as bad as Victor Burgos did last year. I even teared up a bit, because I knew it wasn't good, but I kept holding out hope that he was fine, even though Danny kept telling me the kid was probably going to need brain surgery, and I told him to stop talking like that.
Then I get up this morning to find out how bad it is. I just pray, that he is able to make a full recovery. Thank God the medics jumped in there quickly, and got him out of there.
I would like to add, however, I don't know what the hell his corner was thinking by trying to convince the ref that he was okay to continue. His eye was pretty much swollen shut, he looked out of it, and he was behind on the cards. Why would they take that chance? His corner should have stopped that fight.
The fact the medics were so fast getting oxygen to him will be a huge help
Similar to the York Hall in London really....when a fighter goes down heavily and is in trouble they leap into the ring within about 10 seconds and get the mask on him sharpish.
Good too see.
I'll say a prayer for him..

Ahhh jeez thats terrible. Youy hate to hear about things like this. Hopefully he'll be alright
I dont know about you guys but every time I hear about something like this it makes me re-evalutate whether or not I should be watching boxing. I think as fight fans we get too desensitized to the violence and lose sight of how incredibly dangerous this sport really is.

Wow. Was watching this and fell asleep about round 3 or 4. Decide to have a look at how it finished up, and this...
Hope he makes it okay.
This is not a powder puff sport. We are trying to bash each others brains in, and unfortunately, sometimes succeed.
Any active boxers in here should be familiar with TBI and what to look out for. I just did a short post regarding it in ATT...is about 10 posts down from first post.

I'll be prayin for the poor guy. I hoped it wasn't that bad of an injury. It was strange how he just collapsed.
"You knocked him down...now how bout you try knockin me down ?"
Yes as soon as I saw him collapse off his stool I knew that it wasn't good and began to think the worst.
It's FAR safer than it used to be. In fact, it's as safe as it can be without taking away the EXITEMENT of the sport, the thing we all watch it for. I don't feel guilty, it's still prize fighting at the end of the day, you can get injured or killed in many sports.
Just because we watch the skills of the fighters rather than a casual fan just waiting for someone to drop, I don't think we have anything to feel guilty about fella.
Doesn't make it any less hard to watch. But the fact remains it's no more dangerous then me driving to my local corner store (especially me) and far more die in sports like auto racing and get seriously injured in football then they do boxing. But it's tough no doubt.
God Bless Oscar Keep fightin man like you have your whole career You and your family are in my prayers
