    Default OLD roy jones.

As Roy Jones is my favorite fighter of all time, I do believe he should have retired after the john ruiz fight.

I think Joe c is a good fighter that throws lots of punches with lots of stamina and great determination. I hope roy pulls of the win but he hesistates to go for the kill anymore and is very reluctant with his combinations and has weak defence now the footworks gone.

Joe C seems to think he can cap of his career by fighting old legends and expect everyone to treat him as an ALL TIME GREAT. After all the doubt I have in roys abilities at 39 I do believe he has seen something in JOE c fighting style that he can exploit.

Getting KTFO in the late sages of your boxing career must really shatter confidence levels but roy should not have that worry against Joe..only annoying persistence.

I have waited ten years for this fight and even though its at the wrong time If 40% of the old roy shows up...joe c is in trouble.

but can those old legs last 12 rounds..what do you think?

Joe must be favoured for being the slightly younger man and looking the fresher as of late.

Roy has mixed in only mediocre company lately, a faded, bloated Tito and Anthony Hanshaw are respectable opposition in the closing stages of any fighters career, but if Roy was debating a Title shot he should have set himself better opposition, more closely resembling Calzaghe's style.

Jones is in good shape, he can go the twelve rounds and he has been employing a much more conventional style of boxing and defense since his sublime speed and reflexes have diminished. I feel with his expierience and natural athleticism - even at his age, Roy cannot be discounted.
It would be an upset, but nota shock to see Roy coming out the victor.

Calzaghe should demand this fight at 168 for his own benefit. Regardless of difficulties making the weight, he will make it easier than Jones and he looked less than awesome at Light Heavyweight.

I feel that both fighters can contribute to making a very respectable and entertaining fight.

If Calzaghe underestimates Roy he'll get KO'd. If not he'll lose a UD

    Book mark this post!

It will not be a contest after the 4th, reasons:

    1. Dont stay on the ropes against Calzaghe, why? because he will slap you silly.

    2. If you cant hold and spoil you better fight 3mins of every round, Roy cant do either.

Roy was once great and still is a solid 175lb fighter but Calzaghe has the worst possible style for this version of Roy Jones it will be a massare.

As i said before this fight is a farce Roy Jones was struggling against a mediocre opponent like Anthony Hanshaw and could only fight in spurts.............

Even when he knocked down Anthony Hanshaw he had nothing left to finish him and he only just about won a decision based on the knockdown...........

As for Felix Trinidad ? he lost 4 rounds against a blow up Welterweight because he got pounded against the ropes............

Joe Calzaghe is past his prime but he should still have enough to stop Roy Jones on the ropes Roy Jones just doesn't have the stamina to keep up and he will be puffing like the old man he is after 6 rounds.

Im not tugging on Calzaghes chain but Jones has no chance in this fight zero it will be a battering until Jones gets stopped.

If Roy wins then it will prove how overrated Calzaghe really is.

I wouldn't say Joe Calzaghe is overrated a few years ago he was very underrated and no one knew of him i think he deserves his P4P status and the credit he is getting for his list of wins lately.

Should Roy have a chance at beating Joe C he has to be on his toes all night, force Joe to move forward and counter with the right hand.

Joe is more awkward coming forward, he's accustomed to being a reactive counterpuncher. Move backward and he'll be out of his element (a la Hopkins.) Roy has always displayed a good straight right and thats how to catch a southpaw.

For Roy to win this fight he has to get Joes respect early. Use his right hand early in the fight so Joe knows he cant stay in punching range at all times. Jones cant match him for stamina either so he has to make sure what he does throw counts . Punch picking, accuracy and timing . Sounds similar to Hopkins plan but in terms of spoiling I dont think Jones is that good and neither is he good at wrestling on the inside. He cant run all night from Joe but he cant afford to lay on the ropes either cuz he will get eaten

In the gym it may be an idea to train for power. Joe has been hurt b4 and catching him cold would be great for Jones. Angles and positioning against a busy fighter is also a key to victory . Hopkins set him up well but couldnt sustain his work . Jones has to work on the openings, dont punch with Joe, establish an authorative jab , foil his work and be 1st in center ring . When Joe opens up with his slaps flurries , jones cant afford to stay stiff with a high guardhe needs well timed counters and plant his feet to gain Joes respect . If he does all this he can win on points .

I can't see Roy winning unless somehow he rekindles that power of old and one punchs Calzaghe, but of late he has substituted power to retain speed so I don't see that happening because he doesn't throw punches like he used to.
