Default AP: "Oscar confirms Pacquiao bout, bags retirement talk"

    Why am I not surprised?

A couple of other juicy tidbits from the Associated Press article about DLH-Pac that came out today in the local newspaper:

“A lot of people are going to be very surprised when we’re standing next to each other”, said De La Hoya, who weighed just over 150 pounds last week. “Size isn’t going to be that much of a difference.”

Yeah, right…. who’s he trying to kid? Of course he’s gonna say that. He’s trying to hype up the fight, as has been said so often here. This next one is better though:

“If De La Hoya remains privately committed to retirement, a fight with Pacquiao isn’t an easy way to go out – but De La Hoya has rarely avoided major challenges in his 16-year professional career since winning a gold medal at the Barcelona Olympics. He has fought nearly every major name in his weight classes, and now he’s even dipping down to the lighter ranks to find a bigger challenge than Sergio Mora, Paul Williams or other fighters suggested for his December bout.”

This guy’s either on drugs, or he’s on Oscar’s public relations staff. Then again, maybe he just has a firm hold of Oscar’s staff.

“…. and now he’s even dipping down to the lighter ranks (like that’s a GOOD thing) to find a bigger challenge than Sergio Mora (how about Margarito?), Paul Williams (how about Cotto?) or other fighters suggested for his December bout.”

Sergio Mora?!? This idiot can't find a better example of a "challenge" than Sergio Mora?!? This guy should have his reporter’s license taken away. What kind of nuthugging, useless drivel is that?!? I’d quote more from the article, but frankly, it’s nauseating.
