Today's Patent Medicine

For those of you who don't know Patent Medicine is "Snake Oil" 100% placebo nonproven medicines.


Here are my favorites of today:

We all know of some bogus medicine out there, please feel free to share your favorites.

So nobody has seen any of these products and just thought to themselves "Who the fuck buys this crap and what does it actually do?"


And the old patent medicine is even more interesting, there is a book Charlatan which talks about a quack who used to take goat testicles and put them in impotent men. And Laudanum used to cure people of alcoholism was opium.

Coke had cocaine in it and 7-Up, Moxie, and Dr Pepper all were said to give medical benefits to the person who used them.

Morphine/heroin was once put in childrens cough syrup I believe..

My guardian told us that Coca-Cola used to be so powerful a guy could be on a date with a girl and he could slip her a mickey just by dropping an aspirin in her coke.
