i have norton anti-virus run on it's own schedule.. i didn't even pick a time it just picks an idle time (i normally always have my pc on) and it runs.. it updates automatically and it doesn't annoy me.. now this is the first time i've actually used virus protection, it came with my computer.. otherwise i've never gotten one because i'm aware of what i download and what not.. so that's why i asked..
i'd play it safe and use a few of them.. i have a friend who swears by AVG..
anyway, the best thing you can do is disable your cookies, and make it so that it if you're going to a website you haven't been to before it asks you if you want to allow cookies.. It can get annoying at first but you get used to it, and it's well worth it.. you CAN get a virus from just going to a website, and also spyware and any other sort of malware.. I have been doing this, and i never have issues.. my shit runs just as fast as the day i got it..
