    Default Oh dear!

    Calzaghe schooled roy jones!

He got knocked down in the first (again lol) but it was from roy's forearm rather than the glove in a slight uppercutting right from roy as part of a one two combo.

From then on he won every round.

Not just winning every round but he dominated.

He got caught with some good single shots every now and again but also hit roy with some quality crisp flush punches, one left cross (calzaghe a southpaw so its equivalent of a straight right) that cut jones very badly over his left eye.

From that point on calzaghe was just show boating, he knew roy couldnt hurt him.

Exactly how i predicted, joe's jab was too fast, it kept hitting roy because roy fought how he always does with low hands...except calzaghe just ended up keeping his hands out low the whole fight and sticking his chin out on purpose to taunt jones then avoiding 70% of all shots jones through with just movement lol.

Its a shame that joe showboated so much though, if he stuck to his concentration and put on a display like he did against lacy then he wouldve probably stopped jones later in the fight.

Jones' stamina was gone, his power and speed were gone after 8 rounds...joe was faster than roy and had much better all round skills.

I think joe should now retire, hes beaten everyone, never lost, been champ for 11 years! Is undisputed and indefeated champ at 2 weight divisions...he has nothing more to prove at all.

I think had this been a prime roy jones then it wouldve been a much closer fight.

Although joe exposed all roy's weaknesses he had even when in his prime. Roy has great reflexes, the best speed and great power with fantastic combos...BUT he never ever fought every minute of every round of each fight! He loved to always go against the ropes in the corner and cover up...as predicted joe just worked his body and scored points to the face as well and occassionally some big shots that stunned roy slightly in the corner as well.

Tbh, i think joe couldve ko'd him later in the fight but he was too persistant for the schooling and to show he can show boat better than roy jones.

There was a point where jones actually asked calzaghe to stop doing that after the round because it was making jones look like an idiot against him.

Shame they never founght at their prime, but if we took a prime calzaghe with no trouble in his hands and matched him against a prime jones, id say it would be a lot closer but still have to give it it to calzaghe.

Jones was faster in his prime, but calzaghe still had awesome speed, jones had better movement, but calzaghe just negates any movement by tying him up on the ropes or in-fighting in the middle of the ring. Jones had more power...but calzaghe had better shots and a better defense if you ask me...so even in his prime id have to say that calzaghe wouldve beaten jones because it is an absolute nightmare style for jones to face...calzaghe is someone who just threw punch after punch against jones when he was resting in the corner, calzaghe has incredible stamina...in the end i give jones massive credit for sticking to it when he couldve quite easily retired because after the 6th it never looked like he could win it. He was getting beaten to the punch almost every time and brucked up on the ropes, particularly joe's showboating that mustve really p1ssed off roy jones because it showed that joe knew he was better and could do that.

V good fight to watch though, v exciting. (More than i can say for the crap undercard though).

    But joe is now 46,0,0

All hail joe calzaghe, arguably the greatest british boxer ever!!!

Beaten eubank, reid, lacy, kessler, hopkins and jones!

Thats my opinion...the opinion of someone whos boxed for 15 years, a competitive athlete in my own country and also friend of a guy (whos hated on here as well) but will ko the fuk out of any american heavyweights.

Haters say what you like, you doubted him against lacy, you were wrong, you doubted him against kessler, you were wrong, you doubted him against hopkins, you were wrong, you doubted him against jones and you were still wrong...PMSL!

Now ban me, slate me, do whatever you like because im gone from the board for good now.

I come on here to prove a point, the haters will still hate, but if they cant see that joe has awesome speed, awesome combos and a better all round game than roy did even in his prime (roy got smashed by griffin against the ropes in their first fight until he got disqualified by 2 shots when griffin was on canvas)...joe wouldve caused him all sorts of problems...ESSPECIALLY IF IT WAS A PRIME JOE CALZAGHE WITH NO HAND ISSUES!

But you people wont see it. You will never see it, because you focus on this bollox 'short sharp crisp straight punches'...joe punches from every angle and schooled an old jones (yes an old jones)...but if they fought in their primes (calzaghe was past his prime in this fight as well, only 3 years younger than roy), then it would be closer, but styles make fights and jones wouldnt have been able to deal with calzaghe.

    Over and out.

    Off to celebrate

Lennox Lewis was better, he fought a lot more dangerous threats in their prime, and he ko'ed most of them.

Calzaghe is a great fighter, but Roy land a lot when he threw, I think his biggest fault is he didn't follow anything up, in his prime Roy didn't just potshot with one punch, he would do it from time to time, but he would mix in combinations as well, and he would go to the body.
Hesitation or lack of reflexes he once had were why Roy wasn't getting off.

Well first of all Taeth I'm glad you've given Calzaghe credit today and acknowleged he's a great fighter.

But I don't rate Lewis above Calzaghe at all.

I mean I don't see his wins any more impressive than Calzaghe. Roy Jones was no more shot than Tyson was when Lewis fought him.

And Holyfield was not a bigger win that Hopkins, actually I'd rate Hopkins a bigger win for Joe than Holyfield was for Lewis seeing how Holyfield had been some huge wars by then, had been knocked out by Bowe and was much smaller than Lewis anyhow.

His other wins against guys like Razor Ruddock, Mercer, Tucker etc arn't better than Kessler, Lacy, Eubank imo.

And most importantly Lewis got knocked out TWICE, and to pretty mediocre fighters at that in a world sense.

His resume as it stands is about equal to Joe's (certainly not better imo) but with two devasting KO losses both whilst in his prime I really don't see how he can rate higher than Joe.

They both totally unified their chosen division, they both beat everyone in their respective divisions that would fight them, but Joe held his title for far longer, made far more consecutive defenses, moved up and conquered another weight class (maybe conquered is a bit strong without a Dawson fight) and never ever got beat.

He HAS to be higher than Lewis imo.

Steve Bunce mentioned that also . After what round? Can you elaborate cuz I missed it.

If he did then its even more embarrassing . I remember Jones showed no compassion when he did it to over matched opponents . Tito came to him after the fight and had a laugh about the showboating that Jones did to him . Now Jones cant handle it when someone does it to him ?! What goes around comes around. Now he knows how it feels.

Only the best can get away with showboating. If it were a lesser boxer doing it the other boxer would be angry enough and able enough to smash his fist throught their brain.

The question is why didn't RJJ do that then ? he just allowed Joe Calzaghe to stand in front of him with his hands down. And not do nothing about it, what a terrible way to end a career.

Ice I think youre being a little harsh on Roy Jones. He is an old washed up man . He cant fight at pace and never use to even at his best .

He was badly cut and just wanted to survive. I think he did well to hang in there and as for the taunting , now Jones knows what its like to be on the receiving end for a change .

Its always puzzled me that a so called body buildler like LondonBB claims he is. Would constantly keep starting threads with titles like "Oh Dear" its sounds so camp.
