    Default My Appropriate Fight Weight?

Currently I am 5'11" at 162lbs and roughly 13-15% bodyfat. I lift and run right now and am looking at getting into amateur boxing. My question is if I were to train to fight right now what weight should I be shooting for? I guess I don't know whether I should be doing more to get rid of fat or shoot to increase muscle because I have been focusing on building my strength and muscle far more than my cardio and fat as I am fairly lean to begin with.

I don't really have much to compare to so I am just guessing. I would say a little above average as I am fairly athletic and when I played basketball in H.S. I got a fair amount of steals because of my hands. I am a little slow on leg speed though I have always been more endurance based runner.

I woudn 't over think it too much. I would start working on cardio more tho, and incorporating it into routines. More importantly, I'd just get to a gym and start training in boxing if that is what you wish. Is far too early to be worried about fighting weight. Body types are all different, but you are at an ok weight.

You probably want to keep your weight maybe slightly above where it is then,if you go much higher, you'll give up an asset

i figured I needed more cardio for sure, I have been working on finding somewhere to box. The fitness gym I go to has a heavy bag but thats it as far as boxing goes. I figured that is a good place to start though, I don't really have the cash to pay a trainer right now.

Well just let us know how its going, you'll probably be happy to know, except for the bigger city gyms,it doesnt cost as much as youd expect. There are alot of good gyms around the country who dont charge that much even for private sessions.

I honestly don`t know of anyone who pays a trainer. I hear of it from time to time, but largely unless you are loaded with cash, it isn`t that great of a return on your money. Are you saying there are no gyms to go to? I can understand if you are super rural.

Because for the most part, boxing gyms are relatively inexpensive. I know it varies, but for eg...it costs about 35-40 a month here for full membership. A lot of places it isn`t more then 100 from what I know even in larger cities in the states if you shop around. PAL gyms are practically free. Personaly trainers are more about money grabs, imo. And like i say, prob. ok if you got loads of cash, but who has that?
