Default ESPN: Morales wants to fight on Floyd-JMM undercard

However, if the deal is finalized, Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer told ESPN.com that former three-division champion Erik Morales (48-6, 34 KOs), idle since losing a lightweight title bout to David Diaz in August 2007, would appear on the card. "He is interested to fight again and potentially down the road to have a fight with Marquez," Schaefer said. "His dream has always been to be the first Mexican-born fighter to be champion in four weight classes. I said, 'Look, right now to go directly to Marquez doesn't make sense. I think you need one or two fights to see how you look and feel and take it from there.'" Schaefer said Morales' comeback would be at about 142 pounds with the idea to get down to 135.

Ugh. Morales is one of my 2 or 3 favorite fighters of all-time, and he is completely shot. I don't like the idea of him coming back. He's done.

yea i don't like this at all, i mean i'd still back him cause he is my favorite fighter, and who knows, maybe the time off did him good, but i highly doubt it, i'll watch his comeback fight, we know it's not for the money, seeing how he's working for free (he gives his full salary back), and well i honestly don't wanna see Morales end up hurt

I would like to see him stay retired, he is such a great fighter, but based on his David Diaz fight, he isn't obviously anywhere near his best, but he was still highly competitive at the top of the sport.

GBP let Barrera go because they thought he was finished after his last foght with Pacman, then they start pushing for a 142 pound Erik Morales to fight JMM if he can win a tuneup against some tomato can. This is competing with Tito-Hopkins for the current most ill-advised comeback plan by a former great.

I really hope Morales doesn't get a beat down again. I remember his face when he was floored for the last time by Pacman, he looked like he had totally had it with trying.

He is a true legend, not many fighters like this guy around anymore, most try to keep the 0 and avoid havin a war.

If he doesn't need financial help, i emplore him to not fight again.

If this is some sort of goodbye fight where he can easily win and look great and retire on that then thats good, but if its against someone who can just make him look terrible then no this isn't a good idea

I am completely with you guys I dont want to see Morales hurt but if Morales says he wants a chance id give him one...lets see how good he does in his tune-up fights an then see if he really is completely shot.
Morales is defenetely a fighter and he is one of the Mexican greats and i will back him up till hes long gone.

Morales has nothing to prove. I understand if he just want to fight for money, or just wanna retire with a W in his last fight.

The Beatles broke up and had given the world a tremendous gift before any of them had reached their thirtieth birthday. As I crowd 40, that still amazes me! Erik did the same for boxing, and should stay retired. He hasn't won a fight past thirty.

Morales at 142 pounds....I don't like the sound of it. I thought he performed quite well against Diaz, but that gives me no indication he is any way ready to be competitive with Marquez down the road. If his mind is set on it then there is nothing we can do, I hope it really is a tune up and not against anyone too lively as we really have no idea where Morales is at right now.

    Erik 'NO MAS' Morales?

Is this who we are talking about?

This guy is washed up, done, finished. Morales is not even worthy of carrying my towels to the ring.

It's obvious Morales just needs money. I might pay to watch him quit on his knees again after a couple of rounds with whomever.

I'm not a big Morales fan, but even I find that kind of comment offensive. Morales was a great fighter, how about showing a bit of class?

    Let me rephrase that.
Erik 'No Mas' Morales is not worthy of carrying my jockstrap.
