Default Muhammad Ali set for farewell visit to UK

BOXING legend Muhammad Ali will visit Britain next month to bid his fans a final farewell.

Ali, who suffers from Parkinson's disease, was told by doctors he will soon not be well enough to fly.

He will make appearances at dinners held in his honour in London, Stoke-on-Trent and Manchester, which will raise money for charity.

Ali, 67, said: "The UK is very close to my heart," adding that he wanted to "say goodbye in person to such a wonderful country and to all my friends and fans here".

The former world heavyweight champion, who will meet up with PR man Max Clifford, will also visit Ricky Hatton's gym in Manchester.

It will be Ali's first UK visit since 1999. He came to Britain in 1963 and 1966 to fight Henry Cooper.

You can say that again. Holy cow. 400 pounds (or is that euros?) for the cheap seats. Sure Ali is a great man, but 400 to see a guy who can't really speak and who probably needs help just to wave to the crowd?

I wonder if ALi has any thoughts on this. Kind of ironic for a "people's champ" who used to speak out for the poor and downtrodden.

He came to South Sheilds... a couple of miles from my house in the 60s.

it's a little known fact but it's where he converted to islam.

I would love to meet and see the GREATEST boxer of all time,ut with this fucked up recession we have over here in england its more or less impossible to even consider it.If the ticket prices dropped a bit,say £300-£350 then that would change my mind. Its a MASSIVE kick in the knackers for us brits who are finding it hard just to afford something decent to eat never mind spending a fortune on a LEGEND like ALI.its a real shame that he could'nt come over when the recession was over and done with!!

    IM GUTTED,UNLESS THE PRICES DROP

HE IS A TRUE LEGEND AND I WOULD DO BACKFLIPS IF I WAS TO SEE HIM

I wouldn't even bother with the cheap seats... I'd want to meet the guy and have a picture to remember it/show off.

I've just spent £2800 on a training course that I need to do in order to work/be insured as a self employed/free lance personal trainer to tide me over until my Fire Service placement FINALLY (!!! >:|) starts and then so I can earn a little bit of extra money on one of my days off.

So it's pretty important and could affect the rest of my life... if not at least long term future... but if you'd told me about Ali 2-3 weeks ago I'd be contemplating whether the money would be better spend towards 15 minutes with the guy...
