I am a few years younger than Johnny, but remember well as a kid growing up in the UK his epic amateur fights in the 1956 Olympic Games in Melbourne, and then his famous World Championship fights. A few weeks ago I mailed to Johnny several items that my son wanted autographed, with the stipulation that he kept programs or magazines for himself and his family. We did not realize that he was terminally ill. However, all of the items were returned with personal dedications. This is a real tribute to the man and his character in that he always remembered his fans. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family. May a great man be remembered for who he was and what he achieved. R. I. P.
