Unfortunately, I wasn't able to be there in person, but I did the next best thing... watched it on PPV. And it was G-R-E-A-T. It was a sweep for the local fighters, all the fights were great, and... with little waiting time between fights, I was in bed asleep before midnight.
In the main event, Wilfredo Vazquez Jr. TKO'ed a tough and game Zsolt Bedak in the 10th round. Bedak came out aggresive, but Wilfredo slowly wore him down throughout the fight. I like Wilfredo's speed and power... a chip off the old block, just like his dad before him.
In the previous fight, exciting Roman "Rocky" Martinez knocked out Gonzalo Munguia from Nicaragua in the 4th round, to stay undefeated with 24 wins and 15 KO's. Rocky always brings it for the fans, and we're more than appreciative about the show he puts on. Go Rocky!!! Both Wilfredo Jr. and Rocky were defending their championships, and did so in impressive fashion.
As if that wasn't enough, in the undercard we were able to see the impressive, up and coming Arroyo brothers. McJoe won by UD to go to 3-0, while his twin brother McWilliams looked even more impressive in winning by TKO to also go to 3-0. A 20-second KO by a Costa Rican female fighter (Hanna Gabriel), and another win by a local fighter in the undercard, rounded out an excellent night of boxing for Puerto Rican fans. Never had I seen a fight card on TV where I got to watch six excellent fights in just under three hours.
There were interviews with Juanma Lopez and Ivan Calderon, both of whom were at the fights, as was also Felix "Tito" Trinidad, who always stirs up the crowd by merely showing up to the fights. All in all... a wonderful night for Puerto Rican boxing!
