I need something to compare my own raging alcoholism with. Well, not really. It's more out of curiosity than anything else.

I work Mon-Fri, normal 9-5 (usually more) and drink every day that i don't have work the next day, and the occasional mid-week bit at a bar.. Before i had to work every day, i would drink 3-4 times throughout the week.. i mean, there really isn't anything to do around here besides going out to a bar.. if you go out to go bowling or something to that extent, you still pound pitchers of beer all night.. going to the movies is probably the only activity that doesn't involve alcohol, but i wouldn't go to the movies on a fri/sat night because i'd rather go out and be social.. i don't think this is anything out of the ordinary.
i drink on the weekends.
For someone your age I would say that it is relatively normal, when I was young I drank more than that - though admittedly I had a bit of a problem with those types of things back then.
I made this poll because for the last little while I've been drinking about once every 1 - 2 weeks (though for a long time prior to this I was only an occasional drinker), but I've been wondering if that is too much at my age (2so I've decided to cut back. Basically I want to see how my drinking measures up to other peoples. I am going to see the Pogues next month though, so I imagine I'll end up drinking then.
More than once a wekk, but right now I am off alcohol for at least a month just to get myself back in the gym. Once I start working out more regularly, I will reward myself with some good booze!
How old are you?
And, also, i believe you have a girlfriend, so that does change things also.. when i was living w/ my ex girlfriend i barely drank.. but i also worked strange hours on the weekend.. so we would drink occasionally when people came over, but didn't go out to the bars more than once or twice a week at the very most..
now that i'm single i'm always out w/ my guy friends drinking.
oh, gotcha.. yeah, being single with no obligations to hang out with someone is great most times..
28.. you're still in your prime. i'm 24 next month, i'd like to think i've got a lot of years of drinking fairly often left.. Thing is i live in the smallest state in the US, while it has plenty of fun places to go, it still gets old, so now that i'm making more money it's a lot easier to go to NY for a weekend and not worry about what i spend.. boston is always a good alternative too. if i get a heavy enough rotation going then i'll be drinking for a while.
Nah, to borrow a cliched boxing analogy, I've been in too many wars. I like drinking, it's a lot of fun, but I just worry about the negative consequences these days. Especially considering how reckless I was in consuming everything I could get my hands on when I was younger. I'll never give up boozing entirely, but I feel that I need to cut back.
How far away from NYC, Boston etc. is Rhode Island? I live in Victoria BC, which has about 330,000 people living here, so it's a bit of a sleepy gov't/university town. Vancouver is about 2 1/2 hours away by boat/car though, so it's pretty easy to head over there for some fun. The only other decent city close by is Seattle, which is a bit more difficult, time-consuming, and expensive to get to.
If you're drinking once every 1-2 weeks I don't see how you have anything to worry about. Even if you drink a fair amount that one night, its when you're drinking heavily pretty regularly that it could be a problem.
Hell its apparently good for you to have a glass of red wine everyday. Of course that's not binge drinking.
I go through phases really. Don't touch a thing for a while, drink fairly regularly for short periods of time, then nothing, and then there's football season and really if its bad to drink on Saturdays and Sundays during football season just meh fuck off clean living gods.

I barely drink at all anymore once every 3 months or so and even then it's just a taste. I find when I drink on a regular basis I have no way of controlling the amount I consume, so it's better for me to resist the temptation altogether.
Some people are good at monitoring their alcohol, I don't fall into that category.
For every story told that divides us, I believe there are a thousand untold that unite us.
My total philosophy on healthy living is just me get to 70 and then do whatever you want. I wouldn't mind being one of those grumpy 85 year olds that endanger people on the road but I don't want to be frail and incontinent.
Boston is less than an hour, NYC is about 2 and a half hours. My friends and I often go to Boston as we have a lot of friends there that we graduated with and what not, it's a fairly normal occurance and Boston has plenty of places to go.. NY is a bit more of a planned trip as you would have to find a place to stay, especially since you can be in bars til all times of the morning, i love the city though.
I do not drink at all, you do mean alcohol don't you.![]()
