Default The Greatest Victory came in his crushing defeat

I got into this on my other thread but after thinking about it more, I thought this should be on its own.

It was heart breaking to see Marquez get eaten up like that.

    Not one round...

I dont care why it happened really as much as that it happened to him.A master boxer, a proud countryman, A true gentleman

My brother was saying "man he should just quit"
    I was like
"Fu** that, JM would never quit"

He knew he couldnt win the fight from round 2, but where he ended winning was in going the distance. It hurt to see him get chewed up but I knew he would go to the end of the fight galantly and always making the effort and fighting the good fight.

    JMM you are now immortal.
    The key is Self-discipline.

After JMM's rousing victory over Juan Diaz, he immediately issued a challenge to retired former pound for pound king, Floyd Mayweather Jr., at his post fight interview. I could not believe what I heard... it was so unthinkable!

I thought it then, that that was the height of impropriety... Fast forward to present, the conclusion to last night's fight between the Floyd Mayweather and Juan Manuel, was proof, that that personal impulse was accurate.

One thing last night proved to me why JMM is an ATG.

When he got hit hard Mayweather, as when he got clocked by Pacquiao, Casamayor, Diaz etc, Marquez threw back. He never went into a shell to get out of it, he was determined that nobody is putting him down without one hell of a fight.

    A great warrior.

Marquez status only went up imo. He went 12 rounds with the a great fighter at a weight he never fought at. It was an inpiring effort from Marquez, who came to win. And hes still the lightweight champion. Im happy he got a big paycheck.

After PPV sales he could end up with close on $5m. He deserves it.

    Marquez is a true warrior.

This guy moved up two weight classes to fight one of the best fighters in the sport.

    the guy is pure class.

Even Sugar Ray Robinson got beaten up when he moved up in weight too high.

JMM had nothing to lose in that fight, sure floyd won every round. It just proved floyd should be fighting somebody his own size.

Sorry to nitpick, but Sugar Ray Robinson didn't get 'beaten up' when he moved up to Light-Heavyweight. He had to quit because he was suffering from hyperthermia in a fit he was well-ahead in. Just to put that into context, it was in Yankee Stadium in the middle of a massive heat wave. The referee had to be replaced in the 9th I believe, & a lot of spectators were hospitalized. For my mind, but for corrupt commissions not looking into fighters' safety, Robinson would be a proper 3 weight world champ. He was great enough to hold his own with guys of pretty much any weight, as many fighters proved back in those times.
