Default Hopkins v Jones Jnr is on if Jones beats Green!!

Jones must first win bout in Australia

    By Dan Rafael
    ESPN.com

Sixteen years after they first met, Roy Jones and Bernard Hopkins will finally fight again.

The light heavyweight stars signed an agreement Friday night to meet in a rematch sometime in the first quarter of 2010, according to Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer and Square Ring CEO John Wirt.

The deal is contingent on Jones' first winning a planned Dec. 2 fight in Australia against Australian cruiserweight Danny Green.

Under the terms of the agreement, it is a 50-50 split of the revenue. However, if there is a knockout, the winner of the fight will get 60 percent and the loser 40 percent.

When Hopkins and Jones first met in 1993, Jones won a unanimous decision to claim a vacant middleweight title.

Now I really hope Green wins. Not that I wouldn't watch this fight, just that it's so meaningless at this point.

Seems pretty pedestrian really.Interesting the 60-40 twist to encourage action, try for KO.I think Hopkins starches him but really, what does that mean now.

It's a fun fight between two oldies with some history. I quite like the prospect of these two going at it before calling it a day, they are in pretty decent shape considering their ages.

Though I wonder if any of them have any actual intention of calling it a day. Surely that will be it for the loser....but who can tell.

His only chance is his power and Jones's weak chin otherwise yeah he is in trouble. Not for a minute comapring Mundine to Jones but Anthony showed that Green struggles against a good fast counter puncher.

Hopkins-Roy Jones Jr, just because of their styles will be a great matchup, It won't be fast paced or "exciting", but it will be two of the greats tactical minds, one offensively the other defensively pitthing their wits against eachother.

I think of this generation out of pure success the best defensive fighter is FLoyd Mayweatehr, and the best offensive fighter has been Manny Pacquiao. However I also think thats because Mayweather is a better athlete than Hopkins, and he doesn't if his opponent can throw a lot of punches. In terms of defensive mind set Hopkins might have the greatest defensive mind I have ever seen, he has really fast reflexes but he has never had elite speed, his footwork and all his defensive abilities come from ring intelligence.

In terms of offense. When Roy turned up his offense, opponents couldn't do anything except attempt to block his lightning combinations. He threw the best combinations and always knew the right punch to throw at the right time. I think Manny has had better pure success offensively simply because he may have carried his power better than Roy did to LHW, and even if he didn't, Manny is an aggressive creature who loves exchanges and doesn't mind getting hit to land the harder blow. The only thing that makes Roy a less effective offensive fighter is the virtuoso performances he wanted to achieve everytime, he was amazing offensively, but what made him equal amazing is that he didn't get hit despite all the over the top shit he pulled offensively, but he also had the same problem Mayweather has is that he didn't put opponents away. Often Roy had guys hurt early and never stepped on the peddle, he just beat them up enough that they lost their heart for battle, but not bad enough that the fights should have been stopped.

Golden Boy Promotions should bill this fight between Hopkins-Jones as "Grumpy Old Men."

That would be a great idea indeed.

Beside, if this fight ever happens, i hope that both will retire at the end of the day. Jones should have no difficulties to beat Green and then, no matter what happens, bye bye to both of them; Jones used to be one of my favorite boxer but now I am almost scared that he'll embarrass himself everytime I see him back in the ring, his match vs Calzaghe was definitely hard to stomach and I don't want anything more like that and against Hopkins, at this stage of their career, it unfortunately might happens.

Just think if B-Hop wins this fight they both can set up a rubber match in say 2027! It only took 17 years for the rematch.

How about the phrase they had planned to use for a proposed fight between Holmes and Foreman back in 1999: THE GEEZERS AT CEASARS.

What's an acceptable tune-up fight for B-Hop? He wants to bring it to regular cable TV and even to take a pay-cut so more people can see it as well as to hype the RJJr fight. Looking real quick through the 168-175 rankings I see Yusef Mack and Alan Green as making sense. Anyone better is not a tune-up fight and definitely not worth a pay-cut.
