    Default Paranormal Activity

Ok so this film hits the net today with a ton of hype with thousands of terrified fans claiming its the sacariest film since the Exorcist (which wasn't in the least scary btw)

So I was expecting good things, I'm generally a coward who had to stay at my brothers house after watching the Ring, got frozen in my chair with fear watching Gothika and who had to turn off the Exorcism of Emily Rose after 20 minutes because I was just too damn scared so I thought watching this on my own would be a white knuckle ride.

It wasn't, it was a flatline response the whole time, I just can't see how anyone could be scared by this film.

It was done on such a low budget that all the ghostly happenings, (just banging, noises, and slamming doors really) happend in one room so the same scene is essentially repeated over and over and over, them in the bedroom at night, with the camera rolling picking up some strange happenings.

All I was thinking whilst watching it is how much this bedroom scene will be parodied on youtube and I was laughing to myself imaging Big Bird or a man in an emu suit walking up the stairs and into the room, or maybe the Star Wars Kid will come in with his deadly sabre.....

It was just not scary at all, it could probably get a PG rating and you could happily let any kids over 10 watch it.

So in short, it sucks, not scary at all.

Oh and whilst I'm at it, Drag Me To Hell, what a crap overhyped film that was too, why did people like that film?

I'm surprised at your reaction to that movie, I figured you would be crippled with fear.

...what movies do scare you guys?

The Exorcist is pretty scary up to a certain point, the movie that tramatized me as a kid was JAWS...that scared the crap out of me and anytime I was in the water whether it was the ocean or a lake or a cholrine filled swimming pool if I thought of that music I was getting the hell out of there!

Psycho scared me when I first saw it...great movie but more of a thriller than a horror movie.

The Halloween movies are always shot in a way that scared me a bit, barring #3 'Season of the Witch' which had nothing to do with Halloween at all, no Michael Myers, no Jamie Lee Curtis, no theme song....really strange that.

Good question, I think its totally subjective.

The Exorcist didn't scare me even remotely, in fact its more of a comedy imo, the possession scenes just make me laugh.

Yet I found Gothika a horribly unpleasant film, and the Ring as well. I think it stems from the fact that I watched all three Ringu films (the Jap Ring) and Sadako was just a trillian times scarier than Samara. Also the story in those were so much deeper, and more disturbing that it trasnferred itself to all similar films.

So Exorcism of Emily Rose I didn't like, Gothika, the Ring, all films where it's basically a long haired girl in a white night dress.

But Paranormal Activity just felt so cheap and tacky, like the home fan movie production it was. I don't think its possible to be scary in a Blair Witch cam style film either, it just doesnt build atmosphere the same way, at least not for me.

Blair Witch 2 was a much better film than the Blair Witch I think,

I thought that ghost ship one was decent enough film the other year.
The one where the wire takes all their heads off.

halloween is probably my fav & first time round scared me shitless
exorcism of emily rose took me a long time to watch as had to pluck the courage up & wasnt as scary as i thought it would be.
