Got a few goodies on this weekend.
Kessler 42-1 (32 KOs) vs. Ward 20-0 (13 KOs)
Super Middleweight WBA Super Duper title.
More important than the title is this is last fight of the first
round of the Super Six tournament. With all the accollades
Ward recieved as an amatuer he is getting very little support
to get a win against the tournament co-favorite Mikkel Kessler
Sonsona 14-0 (12 KOs) vs. Hernandez 22-7-1 (11 KOs)
Super Flyweight WBO title.
Sonsona is quick out of the gate for his first title defense.
Just two and half months ago he threw everything he had
at Lopez who had his moment but couldn't keep up with
the youth and wicked powerful Sonsona. Hernandez is
obviously here as filler (a role he has over the last few
years played) but it will be good to see if Sonsona learned
anything from not being able to finish Lopez.
Maidana 26-1 (25 KOs) vs. Gonzalez 22-5-1 (7 KOs)
Light Welterweight WBA World Interim blah blah blah
Yes the exciting explosive Maidana gets back into the ring
after his great upset win over Ortiz back in June. Gonzalez
has been on shakey legs lately while Maidana has looked
hittable but very durable. I always look forward to Maidana
fighting he does nothing but floor it, every minute, every round.
Fragomeni 26-1-1 (10 KOs) vs. Erdei 30-0 (17 KOs)
Cruiserweight WBC title
A must stream card for those outside of Germany and Hungary.
Both guys are taking a step up in class maybe a little late as
these guys aren't exactly spring chickens at 40 and 35 respectively
there is little doubt that they will need to push one another to
their limits to get the nod in this fight. A stoppage win is extremely
unlikely but a good boxing match should be in store.
Segura 21-1-1 (17 KOs) vs. Jaro 30-7-5 (19 KOs)
Light Flyweight WBA title
Segura has one of the most awkward styles in modern boxing.
Obscene waist movement and hooks from the abyss he should
be a nightmare for the 5'2" Sonny Boy Jaro. Jaro is definately
not to be taken lightly as he was able to send Edgar Sosa to
the canvas in their bout and given an opportunity to unload he
will take it.
Thoughts?
