Default Why is Pavlik more thought of than Lacy?

Please excuse the spelling etc, lil nit drunk...

Ok, so Lacy was so highly regarded b4 Joe smashed the shit out of him. Come the end of the fight basicaly everyone classed him as an overrated banged, 1d, nothing more... fair enough he was overrated... i ramamber sitting in the pub watching jeff vs reid for the 2nd or third time and saying to my mate no way would he do that to Joe ( i didn't think Joe wuld beat him with that much ease, but he did expose him...) anyhow, Joe fucking clowned him and Lacy became a "overrated hydped up nobody" and i can understand why, althought i think it a little harsh....

Then latter, after Joe beat Hopkins, they fight, fuck the weight Pavlik is like 6ft4? bigger than Hopkins no problem there at all... Hopkins cained him every round, if Hopkins wanst so, well, i struggle for the right word, but Hopkins had many of chance to kayo Pavlik or TKO him but he seemed content to get the win, even though he rocked him numerous times and could of easlily finished the fight if he had pushed it...

Yet there is little talk about Pavlik being this overrated hitter for his only real "creditable" win beating Taylor...

I'v been pondering asking this for a while, why has Pavlik gotten away with getting a fucking battering, school boy tuning with little said, while Lacy was instantly dubbed overrated and a hyped up bum...?

Yes i am Welsh and a "fan boy" (i'm white also)

I see Pavlik being more overrated than anyone. Arum and the USA media talking him up as the next white hope, the next great boxer because he was a MW... yet Hopkins destorys him and its burshed aside....

I see your points and even before the BHop fight I actually had been seeing Pavlik as one dimensional. BHop showed that Pavlik had no adjustments or plan B up to that point in his career. I do think he is overrated also but we have to wait until he fights more noteworthy competition to thoroughly gauge it. I'd like to see him step in the ring consistently with somebody of worth but for some reason Pavlik just isn't fighting anyone. Lacy was easier to gauge because he fought better competition, or at least tougher, in a shorter period of time. Lacy moved fast and thorougly challenged himself. Therefore we could see clearly that Lacy wasn't what the hype was. Pavlik just isn't challenging himself. He refused the Abraham fight, he ridiculed being in the Super 6 tournament, and dropped out of a Williams fight twice and ends up fighting Espino two weeks later. To me Pavlik doesn't want to dare to be great. He may be a great fighter but we'll never know if he doesn't fight the limited competition in his division before they move on. Maybe BHop took his confidence.

Who the hell is brushing it aside? I haven't heard anyone claim PAvlik to be anywhere near p4p material since HOpkins schooled him, and it's highly unlikely he will ever be spoke of in the same breath again unless he can make serious adjustments to his game. There is almost no difference between the way people treated each fighters losses imo, aside from the obvious fact that LAcy took WAY more punishment in his, giving more reason to doubt his ability to recuperate from it. Furthermore, I don't think anyone had written off Lacy entirely until he injured his shoulder in the Typsko fight and then continued to look pedestrian afterwards. If Pavlik looks anything but impressive against Espino he will be held in the same regard, probably rightfully so.

I think Pavlik coming up made a bigger impression than Lacy. He beat Miranda and Taylor with some brutality. Going up 2 weight classes to fight Hopkins was not a sensible move on Pavliks part and I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt for that seriously off night. Lacy on the other hand was in his own division against Calzaghe and has since lost fights and had repeated close fights with journeymen. Personally, I also feel that becoming a one armed fighter has seriously hindered him.

I just think of Pavlik as a better fighter and I have always done so. I was also one of those who didn't think Lacy would pose all that much of a threat to Calzaghe before the fight. Pavlik would have been whooped by Calzaghe but not quite as easily as he did with Lacy.

Pavlik is the Middleweight Champion of the World.

Lacy was never more then an alphabet titlist.

Didn't the Ring rank Lacy over Calzaghe?

I think it has alot to do with size.

Lacy looks like a battering ram, yet is battered himself. Pavlik looks like a pencil-necked geek, yet he KO'd Miranda and Taylor.

Still, I am sure that Pavlik is loosing fans hourly.

Yeah but they rate Bute over Ward. What the fuck do they know?

    Drinking and posting don't mix.

Pavlik beat the man who beat the man (If you can call what Taylor did to Hopkins a beating) Not only did Pavlik beat Taylor, he knocked him clear into the next day. Destroyed vets such as Zertuche, and McKart and later destroyed Miranda too. Those were all very impressive wins.

I don't know what you are talking about but after Pavlik lost to Hopkins, his life has been one giant roller coaster, if you don't think Pavlik is taking a key board beating by fans and pundits, then you have not been reading enough on the subject. The dude has been taking a vicious beating in the media and the problems that surround him have been stacked a mile high. I have watched most of his fights back to when he actually had hair nearly a decade ago I followed his career and was not too overly impressed but was keeping a close eye on him. I was not completely sold until he destroyed Miranda and I celebrated when he destroyed Taylor.

Lacy is done but if Kelly can fix up his life and turn it around, he can still be a strong force to be recon with at 160 as long as making weight does not become an issue too. I think it is still just a tad too early to give up on Pavlik even though both Lacy and Pavlik looked like one trick Ponies against seasoned veteran greats, Pavlik still can break through while Lacy couldn't. Let's wait until next year and see what happens. Pavlik might need to find a new trainer, which is something most experts would advise. Also, if the rumors of being a drunk are true, he has a long hard battle ahead of him and he might just never recover. Alcohol is not just a drug, it's a disease.

I will keep the YoungsTown boy in my prayers But I will still beat him up with my keyboard every now and then.
