    Default naturally circling left

    Hey guys,

I've noticed that I have a strong tendency to circle left as I throw my punches. I really dont have this problem while shadowboxing.. Its just when I start hitting the bags and or focusing on power.

Any advice on how I can break this habit? Although its already a natural habit I dont want it to become so ingrained that I become so predictable that my opponent starts throwing counter-punches to my left knowing that I'll probably circle into it.

It's always more natural for an orthodox boxer to circle left. Try and keep an opponent in mind when shadowboxing and what he'll do and how he'd react to what you do. Possible that ur circling left more when sparring cos ur opponent is dictating it to you as opposed to when ur shadowboxing on ur own.

well, when I shadow box I can move any way i want without much difficulty.. Its the heavybag I have issues with, when practicing the jab, and focusing on strength and speed.. i always tend to circle left....

I think its cuz I'm pusing off the right leg, and stepping in with the left for the jab, so that's just causing me to go right... maybe theres a flaw in my technique

When throwing the jab, keep the front Heel slightly of the floor. Youre pushing the jab, if the bag wasnt there you would fall over.

You might also be standing to parallel to the bag so that when you throw your power punches your being forced to take a step diagonally to the left with your lead foot.

    Thanks Scrap and Jahmez.

.. both of those points make perfect sense.. I do feel like stand too parallel to the bag, and I'm also pretty much flat footed with my left foot.

Scrap I did the double jab then step test that you posted somewhere and I was able to do it fine... I'm going to have to figure out a way to keep improving my balance and posture though.

    Thanks

You could also try shadow boxing in the ring with the onus on moving to your right. It can be a hard habit to shake off if you dont correct it sooner rather than later
