Default Advice requested regarding a nose injury

    Hi everyone,

I have been training for just over a year now and love it! I did Thai boxing years ago so had some experience for when I started in pure boxing.

Back in late October, I was sparring when my opponent hit me with a stiff jab. I had turned to my left and his glove hit me square on the right side of my nose.

He straight away stopped and said, "Simon, your nose has moved". Took a look in the mirror and yep, it had shifted slightly and a dent had appeared.

It hurt pretty bad but there was nearly no blood. Just a few drops when I bent over to put something in my bag.

Now, the trainer did not fill me confidence as he wasn't able to give me a definitive answer as to what I should do. I went home and after a couple of hours, the pain was getting worse and worse, so I went to hospital.

They took a look inside and said there was no blood clots or any blockages. They diagnosed it as a broken nose and said they would pass on my details to a specialist to take a look. That never happened.

For about 2 weeks after, anytime I touched my nose would result in lots of pain. About a month later, this had subsided, so I tried sparring again. Got hit with some pretty weak jabs and the pain came back.

Even now, when I get hit, there is a slight bit of pain. For quite a while, if I tapped the bridge of my nose I could hear something crunchy.

My question is, should I have this looked into? Or, is this fairly common and nothing to worry about? I'm just a bit concerned as it's gone on for several months now.

Thanks for reading. That was a pretty long post. Any advice is much appreciated.

Unless you're leaving something out of your account, your nose is still broken! Of course that's not "common" and if you have pain and it's bothering you the obvious solution is to get it fixed. Since this happened a while ago now they might need to break it again to reset it. Too bad, because a clean break like that normally doesn't have a lot of long term negative effects if you take care of it promptly. Damage to the nose cartilage however...
