Default does it hurt to get hit with some headgears more than others?

i have a fighting sports no face contact headgear the one with the nose bar and while sparring today some guy made up an excuse that the reason i did so good and he did so bad is because you can feel the punches more with his head gear and with my headgear i cant feel nothing. At first i was laughing but then it got me thinking what if hes right? i mean i know i felt the punches but what if it hurts more to get hit th some headgear than others therefore im getting use to all these soft punches and when i compete its going to hurt me alote more, and i dont mean punches to the nose because i know i have an advantage over that, i mean the feeling of the punch either to the chin or cheeks.

Headgear is for avoiding cuts. It doesn't hurt to get punched in the head unless you get hit on the nose. The ANTICIPATION of getting hit is what gets people. You may have done better because he was more afraid of getting hit than you.

The padding on the glove has a lot more to do with how much effect the punch has than headgear. I rarely even wear headgear.

    That explains alot (haha!)

Seriously though... There is also a secondary impact from headhear in that the impact from the punch resonates through the headgear causing it to vibrate and amplify the effects of the impact.

Damn things should be banned from amateur competition.

Hahaha! That does happen. It's still not the punch that's hurting you, just the velcro. But shit happens. If I get something in my eye I just use it as a mental exercise and deal with it.

Of course, anyone who's sparred or fought without their shirt off knows the horrific feeling of nipple burn later that same day!

I wonder if using velcro on amateur gloves is pretty much concurrent with the introduction of head gear into amateur competition? I have no idea though.

I wear headgear more for my ear drums than anything. I use the classic Everlast full face/Magneto style head gear. And I use 16 oz gloves. Some of the cats wear lighter and I wish they wouldn't
Actually getting hit relaxes me. I agree with the previous post. It's more the anticipation of getting hit. Although a left hook to the jaw with or without headgear is always fun...

    Hear! Hear!

This is very much a Systema motto -- getting hit, solid not bone crushing, is healthy and relaxing.

It also trains you to avoid mistakes (i.e., those mistakes that allow you to get hit.)

Kid I was sparring with today problem thinks I am a nut, every time he would hit me I would say, "Good, good".

It's not macho -- it's just fun to play a little rough.
