Default Avoided Fighter - Choi Tseveenpurev

Theres this boxer Choi Tseveenpurev who is avoided worse than the plague and I feel really bad for the guy. He is 38 years old now and not much time left to make some big money and I don't think he will get the opportunity because he is a danger man and many prospects know this is a tough fight for little reward.

He had a sort of breakthrough fight last year against Derry Mathews who was unbeaten in 20 fights coming into the fight. Well Tseveenpurev did a number on this young prospect and looked great doing it and I was very impressed. But it looks like this great performance back fired cause it looks like he has disappeared. I watched him on Steve Bunce's boxing hour and came across has a real gentleman and one of them guys boxing promoters would bit his hand off but it hasn't happened.

It reminds of another avoided fighter Glen Johnson who only recently has been given the chance his skills deserve and a really nice genuine bloke.

So Choi Tseveenpurev if you are feeling discourged please hold on for a while longer cause if it happened to Johnson you have hope cause you have the skills, desire and the punch to get that big payday.

Will be looking out for you fella and I know you are the bizz

He's only had the one fight against a journeyman since the Matthews fight, and it's horrible for the guy. Fair play, he absolutely demolished Matthews in that fight, and I can see why the managers of the existing champs don't want to touch him because he's such a devastating puncher.

He deserves better than he got I think, but the problems he's got is that he hasn't got enough big wins to get ranked internationally, but nobody domestically is going to want to fight him.

Catch 22 situation......so what does his guy do then....just hang up his gloves...or takes a few dives to get the fights against more established fighters....its a terrible situation why don't Warren or the likes give this guy a chance than give somebody with a fake record and a fake title a chance. Tseveenpurev reminds me of the old throwback fighters of yester year who would fight any time any where but because we live in a material world we are fed some guy with a built up record fighting bums and then finally struggling when the time to impress.

This is the kind of shit that makes me never want to support boxing again. Only in boxing where you can avoid dangerous fighters that can give you a loss.

I haven't heard of him. This is what happens when a boxer is good but does not have enough media exposure (at least not in the US).

Found a footage of one of his fight:

    This fight is brutal.

Its a shame when you here storys like this. 20/30years ago fighters from europe/asia got ignored by the bucket load but nowadays its kinda rare to here these kind of things happening.

Think choi may be suffering from the sven ottke effect. the tv companys has seen your unbeaten record but theyve also seen who youve beaten to do it and where it took place and just decided youve padded your whole career out.

    That wouldnt be the case.

The bloke is exciting to watch but he has a few losses, although disputed, he just needs to go through as many fighters as he can as quick as he can and force his way up the rankings, like Witter had to, the more exposure he gets, the more crowd he will draw and the more of an attraction he will become.

He just needs to fight to get seen then as an attraction it becomes more financially viable for him to become an opponent to a defending champion.

It looks like almost all of Choi's fights since 2000 had been in the United Kingdom. For our British posters, how known is he in that part of the world?

He would deffinitly have been known in the trade if he was sparring Michael Brodie, Michael Gomez and Naseem Hamed.

I hadnt heard of him till I saw him Fight Derry Mathews.

A bit of casual investigation on Boxrec shows that almost all his fights have been at the Tara Leisure Centre in Shaw, Lancashire, fighting from Jack Doughty's gym. I'm sure someone more familiar with the area can fill me in on how Choi ended up there, and if there's a Mongolian community there, because Shinny Bayaar is also fighting under Jack Doughty, and the only other British based Mongolian boxer I've ever heard of. Surely can't be just coincidence.

Maybe a bigger name promoter might have given Choi more fights and more opportunities, but at 38 he really needs to get some breaks before it's too late.

Well I am not far from there and talking to some people he is in a contract row with his manager well ex I think now where he has to pay Jack Doughty 25% of each fight and Choi doesn't want to do this, I also heard because of this he has been keeping busy and fighting in MMA. He also recently had some work Permit problems but I think he has now had that sorted.

I also heard that he could be back in the near future in the featherweight Prizefighter.
