Should I buy and Xbox 360 Elite or a Playstation 3?

I'm trying to decide between the two of them. Xbox 360 has more games, and I'm more familiar with it, but the PS3 has some cool exclusives and seems like an overall better machine. From what I read, it seems like it would have more longevity than the Xbox 360. Plus, online play is free and I sure as shit ain't paying for Xbox live. However, I also hate the Playstation controller; I much prefer the Xbox one, and while it may seem stupid, that's big deal to me.

And yes, I do know that I made a similar thread like a year ago, so fuck you.

Edit: I guess I should also say that I mostly like RPG (like the Elder Scrolls Games), sports games, and strategy games (like Civilization or more war-focused ones). I also like the odd FPS.

FUCK the Xbox, obviously you know my views on this though as I have told you. Also, just so you know, I never liked many FPS in previous generations but to me they make the best use of the technology.

Also, if you buy an XBOX, I will almost guarantee that IT WILL BREAK. They say they are redesigned, they said that with the first generations of Elites and they all broke. I will say this, I have NEVER asked someone with a 360 if their's never broke after a year or 2 and had them tell me yes. It's a jaw-dropping failure rate. Mine is under my tv I refuse to even ship it back, I don't care, IT'S DEAD TO ME. Plus, imo, the only decided advantage it has over the PS3 is that Live is a lot better then PSN for in game functionality and some exclusives. The PS3 has nearly everything else (including games) and the big one, BLU-RAY which is fucking amazing.

I used to swear by the Playstation but a couple of years ago i was totally converted to the xbox, it took a while to get used to the controller, but now totally prefer the xbox controller for most of the games. The only game i feel the playstation pad is better is for the PES footie games.

You can actually buy a xbox pad compatible for the playstation if thats ya only concern, my bro has both machines and recently bought one of these pads and loves it, works really well for it.

my kids have both they hardly ever play on the xbox.

but then that is prob because the ps3 online play is free.

but out of them all they play on the steam account the most but that requires a high spec computer or at least a good graphics card and a high speed internet if you go wireless.

Not many at the moment, just GTA4, FNR4 and Ghostbusters. Even just those three have been keeping me busy for the time being. There are loads more I want to buy really. And like Amat said, it's good for watching movies too.

I would like to get a PS3 but I don't have any problems with the XBox, never had any problems with it. That's not always the case though. The problem with the PS3 is there are some great games for Xbox that the PS3 doesn't have. Of course that goes both ways but there are less great PS3 exclusives from what I can tell (I haven't paid much attention to games in the last year or so)

Ive got both and im the same i would never pay for the online that's why ps3 takes it for me and i fing its much easier to just pick up and use compared to the xbox 360. Know you get most games on both consoles only the odd exclusive you'll miss out but the ps3 does the same.

I love my PS3. God of War 3 and Metal Gear Solid 4 were the two best games i've ever played. Metal Gear Solid 4 is the best game i have ever played and it is, in my opinion, the best game ever created. Infamous is a fun game.. the GTA's are fun.. Sports games are sports games.. Uncharted 1 and 2 are great.. I have Killzone 2 and that's a lot of fun to play and the 3rd one is in the works.

I think PS3 is the safest bet and by far the better system hardware/software-wise.

However my brother is a gaming uber nerd and has owned the Wii, the PS3 and the Xbox 360.

Actually, he's probably owned about 4 Xbox 360's as like Amat says the failure rate is terrible. If you buy one it WILL go wrong at some point.

However for those who are tech savvy and dont want to pay for games the xbox is far better value as the machines are easily modded if you know what you're doing and you'll never have to buy a single game for it, unless you want to use xbos live.

If it bricks they can be fixed if you know what you're doing but it's a tedious process. My brother has literally had them held together with penny coins to stop them overheating.

The PS3 imo (only from looking at my brother's never owned one) is a far sexier looking device although I'm not sure it's as good for games. A lot of games when produced for both machines are better on the Xbox 360 for some reason. I don't know why this is but it happens a lot apparently, faster, better visuals, less slowdown.

But this is probably not that big a deal as the difference is hardly likely to be that great, certainly not as great as playing a game properly on a top end pc.

If you have money to burn I'd spend a grand or so and buy a decent pc myself. Get yourself a nice radeon 5870, (actually 5890's might be out now?) and a 24 inch widescreen monitor and enjoy proper gaming.

To be honest, my advice is totally wrong for most people, but as a life long pc customer and hater of all things console and Apple related I am something of a fanboy elitist

To be honest I think you'd be happy with either. If you aren't going to copy games and use xbox live then the Xbox is less attractive imo. It's $100 cheaper but probably uses $100 dollar cheaper components too.

I don't know what I'd choose if I had to pick. I mean I'd get a 360 and hack it, but if you're not doing that the PS3 might be a better bet.

Both decent machines though. I know Half Life and Alan Wake are both better on 360 than on PS3, as is Bioshock 2 I believe.

I think ultimately it will come down to what games you want to play. i.e those that are exclusive to either machine. Blue-Ray might be nice too, but only if you are going to use it.
