The Demographics of Video Gamers
The Entertainment Software Association’s 2005 Essential Facts About the Computer and Video Game Industry report [PDF] reveals that 75% of heads of households play computer or video games and that the average game player’s age is 30 years old. Not surprisingly, a significant percentage of gamers are teenagers: 35% of gamers are under 18 years old. Most gamers, however, 43%, to be exact, are in the 18-49 year old age bracket, while only 19% are over 50 years of age.

Let me see that's 43% + 19%= 62% to 35% under 18. hmmm.. do the math!

....and EA think only kids play their games(Fight Night). Kids accept anything while grown ups want reality represented.

A post from a site that has boxing fans over 40 and 50. A member answered a question I asked....

The comments I'm seeing in the various forums into regards of EA's Fight Night Round 4 is that it doesn't portrays the sport correctly. The is coming from a huge amount of fans(young and old) across the internet. Many of these fans are asking for boxing greats from the past too. Im not as old as some of you(39), but you guys are getting your information wrong and the demographic for games have changed greatly. Yes, you have kids playing these games, but you have more adults playing them too. My older brother(54) who is a cop plays Fight Night and Title Bout as do many of his older friends. I don't graphics take away from your imagination because as a kid I use to draw and make cut out to illustrate certain things. The graphics just give you more to grasp.

I always play CPU vs. CPU with Fight Night Round 4 to give me that Title Bout feel and so many other Fight Night fans I discovered, but certain realistic aspects are not present.

I think many of you are counting the younger generation out too soon.

Seriously, though. EA Sports is to the gaming community what the slugging style is to the sport of boxing. It's explosive and breathtaking, all at the same time. They're what Tales From the Crypt was to the horror movie. What the media/news is to reality.

It's all short, entertaining "sound bytes." The depth/details are missing.

Bringing the two together is definitely a visionary-type of undertaking. The technology is there to do it. No doubt about that. The marketing demographics, however, must be convincing the key decision makers from crossing over all the way and embracing the depth/realism aspects of the sport.

Same thing with Madden Football.

Sooner or later, someone's going to bring to the two together. It's just a matter of when.
