Default A thread for Hatton fans to get together and get behind Hatton

The recent Hatton stuff has been a bit distressing. What he did wasn't big or clever and at the least he has likely been drinking far too much for his own well being, but I am glad he appears to have admitted there is a problem and has gone into rehab. I saw that video with his mum and dad, and you have to admit that though they likely knew he was drinking too much, they probably didn't expect to see him shovelling that stuff up his nose like he was. It was a shocking piece of footage. At least with Calzaghe it was all swagger and talk. With Hatton he was there shovelling it right up.

Also as I cast my eye around the boxing forums, I notice that far too many are really, really laying into Hatton and pulling him to pieces right now. Some of the threads, particularly over at Eastside are nasty and drag that place further down and below the gutter. I think it is right to be critical of the way Hatton has conducted himself, but I do think there are limits. I mean, he gets drunk and has likely snorted a few lines. We have all done that (except maybe for ICB), but to do that to excess is to lead to destruction and that is perhaps where Hatton has gone too far. The drinking has certainly become more than rumour.

We sometimes look up to the fighters we follow and this is perhaps a mistake and that's where it is all the more shocking in the case of Hatton. He has always presented himself as 'one of the lads' and a man that likes a pint, but to be a reckless alcoholic? You just prefer not to consider that. I remember reading somewhere in his autobiography that he was against drugs. So, to suddenly see him doing that too and along with all the photos and video out there on the web of him post Pac, it really makes you wonder what he has been up to.

But regardless, we can all speculate and criticize, but what I would like to do here is to simply make a positive thread for all the Hatton fans to gather round and support their fighter. He is currently in rehab and no doubt having to re-evaluate a lot of things in his life. I don't think it will hurt to send a little bit of positive energy out there to combat all that horrible negativity I see floating around. Ricky is one of Britains great fighters. He had a great career and though it didn't all fall into the great scheme he no doubt had in his head, he should take pride in it all and try to come to terms with things. No doubt he knows he could have done better against Pac, but it is what it is and it's water under the bridge. And likewise this whole scenario can be water under the bridge too. So let's all unite behind Hatton and wish him well on trying to piece his life back together and get back to some kind of normality.

I was on another forum today and a guy wrote a funny post about 3 paragraphs long and everyone was saying "boring"..."say it quicker!", but I actually thought it was a great read. But then again I do still read books. It's like saying "I'm not reading Don Quixote. It's too long!". I only wrote 4 blooming paragraphs! Okay, it's no Don Quixote. But it's only 400 words for crying out loud. It's like the people that only read the newpaper headlines. Is it juicy enough...."no, I need something more scandalous" and off the eyes wander....

Anyway, I disgree with you. If you cannot exercise self control then there is a serious problem with "getting off your head". That is what Hatton is trying to overcome now. And I wish him all the best in trying to be the best person that he can be to his son and immediate family.

I'm not even a Hatton fan really, but I see no reason to rip into the guy because of his personal problems. At least he's addressing them, which is commendable.

Right, I asked for a nice thread with a little bit of respect so Hatton fans could get around together and just show a little bit of positivity towards a fighter they respect and like. And you want to tell me you can't be bothered to read my post? Then question if I read books and mildly allude to my sexuality? And then do the same to a Mod?

I'm sorry, but I think you are way out of line and should never have posted here!

Eastside is just a degenerate place, the amount of shitheads over there is amazing, so I almost never venture over there.

From what I heard from guys like skel here that Hatton has been doing it for years. It's his life and his choice and to be honest I think he's going to rehab to try and repair his damage reputation more so than getting help. Yes, that's the cynic in me talking.

Anyways, I wish the guy luck.

Decency calls to mind that kicking a man while he already is down is a big no-no. With that said, here's hoping that the "Hitman" comes out of this the better man... for his kids, his family, his fans, and himself!

GB- I don't want to quote you because that means quoting my enormous 4 paragraphs! But yeah, we don't know about the drugs so much, but the booze warning signs have been there for years. We have all known about it. I was saying the same thing 3 years ago, but as each fight came along I would build it all up again. However, there comes a time when you can't excape the fact that living how you want between camps will catch up eventually.

Just maybe though the message has hit home regarding the booze, it's a big thing to ask to expect Hatton to come out cured, but at the least we can hope that it is the first stage in a recovery process.

    That's fair enough then.

This is a sensitive thread concerning a fighter that a lot of people respect. Have the fun elsewhere. This isn't the place.

Oh, it was only a teachers forum. It's where I go to look for most of my new jobs. There are a lot of funny people with 3-4 paragraph lead threads. Must be a teachers thing.
