Default Mayorga Vs. Cotto for March??

Mayorga: After I Handle Miguel Cotto, Pacquiao is Next!

It seems Mayorga is claiming he signed a contract to face Cotto.
Top Rank says negotiations are on-going between Mayorga, Wolak, Vanes.
This is scheduled to be PPV. So it's really a no-brainer who it should be and I can't wait.
I think Mayorga stands a good chance, but I need to watch the Walker fight I just downloaded.

I don't think Cotto is the same fighter anymore. He was always vulnerable coming up, but in recent fights he has been taking punishment. Against Margarito, Clottey and Pac. Foreman had no pop and lost his leg so that one has question marks.

Mayorga would have a fair shot at taking Cotto out IMO.

    I can't wait for Mayorga's diarrhea mouth pre-fight hype.

Don King raced down the highway with one million dollars in cash, to prevent the show from taking place. He ruined the whole show.

    Really good matchup for Cotto...
The Yuri fight was just weird.

    Cotto wins via TKO.
Cotto needs to box early make Mayorga come to him then in the mid rounds just bring it and get the TKO.

Again I think this is a good fight for him.
Some of you guys know how huge of Cotto fan I am.
But I think Sergio flat out beats him and outboxes him with possibly a late TKO.
Sergios style is just all wrong for Cotto.

I think Vanes starts off well but he's just not seasoned enough.
I've seen Vanes fight and train and to be quite honest he doesn't impress me.
I mean the kids got good speed and def. knows how to box BUT it takes a lot more then that to beat Cotto. I think Vanes should face someone like Bundrage or Powell.

Miles not being a wanka or anything but it doesnt take a genius to figure that out.
No fighter is ever the same after they've been in the kind of fights Cottos been in.

However Cotto still shows that when he decides to box he can.
He just has that live by the gun die by the gun style which made him more popular when he was coming up. I think that style get's the best of him and he just goes for it.

I have absolutely zero doubts that Cotto can beat Vanes, Kermit, Angulo and Alvarez.

Mayorgas chances are as good as you throwing a haymaker...
For anyone to think Mayorgas got a good chance. Is really stretching out this whole "Cottos done" or "Cottos on the decline" thing a bit too far.
To think that Mayorga stands a chance is just nonsense.
I'm not talking about a hayemaker shot.
I'm talking about some actually thinking Mayorga will win with a plan of boxing and getting either a decision or a TKO.

Thats not why I think Mayorga has a good chance.

Go on boxrec and look at his schedule of fights. Since Trinidad its been once a year, his last fight was the first in over 2. Even the Trinidad fight he was out 6 months before. I know alot of other fighters have these absenses and still do well but they have a bit more love for the sport than Ricardo does. He wants money which is why he doesnt mind taking these big fights when he knows hes not going to be ready.

I think if hed have fought only 2 or 3 months before the Trinidad fight or the fight had been at light middle that Ricardo would have won. He was doing well and hurting Trinidad until he ran out of steam in the 4th and just allowed Trinidad to work on him. Felix couldnt dent his chin still, it was a body shot. ricardo needs to be active and fighting at a decent weight to force him to train. Hes not technically gifted but is tough and strong. When Mosley fought him he said that Oscar warned him that Mayorga is "very heavy handed".

I just think that these 9 rounds hes just got done will do his chances the world of good. He didnt have a lot of notice for the fight but fought a decent pace for 9 rounds and still had the power to wobble and drop Walker in the 9th and Walker is a solid middle that Andy Lee couldnt drop in Walkers previous fight.

As long as Ricardo trains and trains hard I think he could put Cotto in to his shell. Especially if he starts fast and lands something decent early. Iv always thought Ricardo would beat Cotto. Maybe hes too old now and the legs have slowed but the Mayroga that beat Forrest in those fights would ruin Cotto and would have given Mayweather and Pacquiao some exciting fights too.

Mayorga is much bigger than Cotto who has only fought one fight at 154 and against a pillow puncher in Foreman. Cotto wasn't exactly a big WW and I thought it strange to see him go up and fight at 154. I just think he is too small for the best in the division and against someone as big as Mayorga who has been fighting as high as MW and above in recent years is extremely dangerous. I can see Mayorga's unorthodox style taking Cotto out of his comfort zone and giving him fits. Even Mosley was having a hard time of it until he finally managed to make an impact and I don't think Cotto has Mosley's kind of power nor endurance. Plus I can't see Cotto stopping Mayorga, not at LMW.

Cotto should be fighting at WW where he belongs. I think he has just too small a frame to be as relevant at LMW as he was at WW.

Cut - I disagree. I see Vanes, Kermit, and Angulo beating Cotto at 154. Alvarez may be too green. Cotto beats Wolak.

Cotto can box Mayorga can't, Cotto can set up his punches Mayorga can't....this fight would end in a worse beating for Mayorga than he took vs Oscar.

As for who challenges Cotto at 154: Alvarez, maybe Cintron, maybe Vanes....but deffo not Angulo.

Why not? Imo Cotto is way more talented than Cintron.

Cotto beat Mayorga easily and this will be a good fight.
