Default havent seen this match up mooted before...

    Vargas v Mayweather at 154?

Be quite interesting I think! I think Vargas is really underated ...saying that Floyd is probably a class above in terms of status...opinionS?

The peak Vargas that got whooped by Tito and Oscar would get whooped by Floyd too.

Size and Strength would have been with Vargas, looking back now Vargas' skills were underrated but i do not think he would have beaten Mayweather.

Would have been close though Mayweather does not bang like tito did back then and against DLH Vargas was holding his own until he was caught i think his stamina may have been suspect in that fight, he didn't recover well after the first knock down. If Vargas hadn't got himself in trouble early against Trinidad i believe he would have won.

Not many people performed against Wright as vargas did and Wright was also underrated at the time controversial but I think Vargas won. Vargas was very young and inexperienced in comparison.

hard to judge prime vs prime as different weights. If Mayweather found himself getting a beating from Trinidad as Vargas was would he have kept getting up and firing back? who knows

really wanted Vargas to beat DLH i think his career would have turned out differently

Kind of where I'm at too. Wright a much more natural jr middle but think Floyd would pepper him to death and glide away. Rinse- repeat.

he was only holding his own against DLH cause he was juiced up on roids, that's why he was suspended and fined after that fight, so i doubt very much Vargas would have been able to hang with either one of them due to he was already mentally broken cause of Trinidad, i've said it once and i'll say it again, if Vargas hadn't been rushed into stardom and against Tito he probably would have beaten both Trinidad and DLH and gone down as one of the greatest Jr Middleweights of all time

Fair comment with the roids whether he knowingly took them or not does not matter. Yeah he was affected mentally by the Trinidad loss, i have no idea why he was rushed perhaps his handlers saw something that showed his career wouldn't last long so they wanted to make as much money as soon as possible.

I remember an article in a magazine years ago where a number of fighters were assessed and people gave their opinions on whether or not they were future hall of famers. If i remember right Vargas was held in high esteem but who ever was giving their opinion said it was too early to tell and Vargas was too young but the potential was there. (think it was world boxing, ko mag, 1 of those magazines that we used to get in the UK about 6 months late )

    Good post ElTerribleMorales.
