    Default We Need More Vic's

Is Vic Darchynian a great fighter? Nope. He doesn't have much of a right hand, his technique goes right out the door for long stretches, he's reasonably easy to hit and at bantam he's no longer a huge puncher. Last night once he hurt Perez he blundered about with all the grace and technical mastery of a near-sighted caveman. Squaring up, collapsing distance, pawing with the jab etc.

    But SO WHAT!!!!!!

Vic is still fighting in good form at 35, absolutely ancient for a little man. That demonstrates an unusual commitment to the sport outside the ring. He must live a Spartan lifestyle. He also fights with an unquenchable belief in himself and an utter commitment to victory. He surges, surges, surges into the fray in search of victory. It doesn't always work, but Vic commits like few fighters ever have.

The sport needs more Vic Darchynians.

He's really exciting to watch. Not sure what to say about Perez. Here again you had an orthodox fighter fighting a southpaw and he kept moving to his right and directly into Vics telegraphed straight left. I don't think he tried to get his lead foot on the outside once.

I was impressed by his win over Arce. He is a bit cocky and raw at time but shows real spirit like Martinez at his age.

Darchinyan surprised me last night. I didn't think he had carried all that much power up to 118 but he certainly did. Had Perez rockin and reelin all over the place, and basically made the guy quit.

Darchinyan's best win was over Christian Mijares, a guy who was supposed to dominate Vic.

Also anyone notice the apparent Mafia members in Perez's corner during the intros ?

You're right though. As much as I hate his shit-talking, he's a fearless guy who is willing to fight anyone, anywhere.

I can't say I didn't enjoy seeing Ugly Vic get knocked out by Donaire, but I am a Darchinyan fan, he grows on you. Win or lose his fights are entertaining, so I agree, boxing could use a few more pugs like Vic Darchinyan.

I REALLY thought Mijares was growing into something very, very special. He's still a good fighter and it's a huge win for Vic I think.

Good right hand or not, he was in shape and alert with one thing on his mind, winning. Basically he's a good competitive fighter and like him or not, he's not a dirty headbutting southpaw like Bradley. His speedy reflexes surprised Perez and I'll bet half the audience was surprised also. Vic is one of those fighters that grows on you because I did not care for his style but I kept an open mind and I love the division he's in. Before I forget, that right hand was doing the right thing, probing.

He should face Montiel if he can't get a rematch with Mares.
