Default Why are boxing attendences low in USA?

After watching the bhop fight where there was over 17,000 spectators i was thinking why is it that most of the big fights in america are held in smaller arenas? i know that pacman fought in front of abt 50,000 but manny is a god to many people.

Impossible to know of course. But Cotto drew 25,000 IIRC at Yankee Stadium.

Having said that boxing in the US is really hurting these days.

its bigger in usa than uk but our big fights can get 20,000, just wondering if its internal airline costs as well, cos obviously uk alot smaller.

No, that's not it. I mean we have 30 million people who live within 3 hours drving distance of New York City. My guess is it is partly the damage ppv has done and partly the dismal current state of the talent pool.

Talent pool is not that dismal and even if it was, there have been periods in the past that were worse than others, and boxing still drew.

In my opinion, promoters have stopped building the reputations of fighters in the areas that they come from. Adamek draws a good crowd at the Prudential Center in Newark because there is a big Polish community there. Guerrero draws fans in Maryland. Arreola packed Staples Center when he fought Vitali. But, too often we have the Bradley versus Alexander in Detroit scenarios. There are plenty of other reasons too.

This is the worst talent pool of my lifetime by quite a margin. Completely agree with your promotional commentary.

You could also say that the American are missing charismatic and spectacular champion. The US was used to have the best champ in boxing for the last decades.

The crowds have been looking bigger to me, I think even the Ward-Abraham had a decent crowd show up. I blame ticket prices in comparison to ppv, you get perfect angles and you dont have to sit next to some fucker that stands up in front of you blocking your view. Ringside seat are way too pricey for your typical boxing fan.

Yeah but hasn't that always been true?

I'm not too sure, but if you look at what kind of seat you would get for the price of ppv, its third or 4th tier. You only get one angle as well. Yeah seeing a fight live is great and all, but I would have to be closer than that to enjoy the fight. Talking at least 100 per ticket type seats.

I know it sounds simplistic but its because their are no real contending heavyweights. Same thing in my country. Outside of Quebec boxing is a non issue in Canada.
