Look at your hands, how big do you think they are? Also, how big do you want your gloves to be?
I have are hands, but small fingers, as such I bought X-large gloves (16oz) these were massive so I bought some medium gloves (10oz) but these were a bit tight when wrapped. when my 16oz gloves fall apart (they're lonsdale, so not long) I'll try some 12 or 14oz gloves.
To be honest, I guess this is the downside of online buying, you pay a bit more in a store but you get to try stuff on? That said, I understand that not everyone has a convenient local boxing supplies store, so maybe ring up the online company (people like to hear real voices) and ask them for advice, see if you can order something and return it if its no good? If they give a damn about their stock and customers they will at least want to try to help you, if they're not interested then take your money else where?
as an aside, also consider glove use? Big gloves (16oz etc) help you cover up in sparring, protect your hands and your partner more and tire your arms faster. Smaller gloves offer less protection to you, your partner and are physically smaller to hide behind when sparring. If you're just planning bag work then durability is more important than padding as constantly pounding a bag will wear your gloves down. Fit can be adjusted with thickness of wraps and for godlike don't buy laced gloves unless you train with someone who is happy to lace you in and out all the time!
