Default Gavin Rees - Derry Matthews 135 Euro title.

Derry had a fight this weekend in Liverpool and won by 6th round tko i think. He's up next against Gavin Rees, I think this is going to be a good fight and will be a close fight. I would be worried if Rees could punch but he cant, I known if Derry loses this he will quit boxing for good. I think he can get a decision against Rees if he boxes clever. The fights in Newport though, so that will certainly favour Rees. Derry will bring a lot of mouthy scousers though no doubt, I think this is a good domestic show down I can't wait.

Matthews looked very good at the start of his carear but that loss to choi and it all came crashing down

hes looking a lot better nowadays tho and you are right he could get a descision against rees, its a close one to call

i think the better bets would be a late rees KO or rees on points

He lost his confidence against choi no doubt. Was a shame because if he had got through choi and maybe got a couple more wins he would have got a title shot. He was winning against lindsay before getting brutally knocked out, he was unlucky in that fight. He avenged the loss to lawton which was good and he's now on 4 wins since losing in the final on prizefighter to buckland.

I think it is mainly confidence with Derry and if a fighter can come forward and dominate him he does
Lose heart. I don't think Rees is that kind of fighter though and Derry does have good boxing ability there's no doubt. The fight is in rees favour, but early in derrys career he went to Stephen fosters home ground and put on a solid performance. Let's hope we see that Derry again, good luck to him!

Rees' last couple of fights have been odd, where both times he's dominated the first five or six, looked like he's completely run out of steam and on the way to getting sparked himself, gets a bollocking from Gary Lockett, then goes out and finishes the job off either late on or on the cards.

Derry Matthews is on the list of fighters I don't like, but even though he's on the comeback trail I'm going to have to disagree with you Tam, cause I don't think Matthews has enough about him that will set him above the other taller guys that Rees has fought and beaten.

I just depends what Derry shows up really there has been moments in fights where he is outstanding, hard to hit and good fast punch combinations. Other times especially when he's been hit he just really does lose heart and it costs him fights. He's improved a lot though but he really is chinny and this will haunt him. But If he stays focused for 12 rounds I do think he has a chance Rhun. As I said before in this thread If he loses he will retire for good, so I'm sure he will put in 100%. He is the underdog though, but I think he will definatley put up a good fight I'm looking forward to it.

I'm tempted to try and round up a few mates to go down to Newport for it, as the atmosphere with a bunch of pissed up south walians and scousers should be pretty tasty. Might wait and see what's available closer to the time.
