Default Food commodities speculation is the new toy of money players

Surely it hasn't escaped the attention of anyone how food prices have continued to rise at increasingly rapid rates in recent years. We are in a state of global recession and yet curiously the cost of basic and essential food items continues to rocket. The G20 a year or so ago was supposedly going to tackle this problem, but seemingly it is once again off the radar.

What we have are food commodities markets and an increasingly concentrated group of financial corporations are using these markets to hedge their bets. They push up the value of key food items which results in higher costs and obviously when the markets deflate costs never come down and continue to rise with increasingly volatile economic markets.

What this basically means is that food prices are continuing to rise, poor people are going hungry and some cynical businessmen are getting rich by playing games with the cost of food which is a necessity for all.

We are always hearing about crops being depleted by natural events, but in reality food stocks are as stable as they have always been and though the global population continues to rise this is not the main factor in the increasing costs.

So, beware the latest evil...... food commodities speculation. They don't just want to keep you poor, they want to starve you too.

Yes this strategy is actually first targeting the poOrest countries intentionally in a depopulation/eugenics campaign. In places like India where 880 MILLION people live on less than $0.90 US per DAY, even a 10% rise in the price of rice or lentils makes it IMPOSSIBLE for them to eat properly. For us in the 1st world we dont feel a price of peanut butter increase from $2.79 a jar to say $3.19 a jar, but to an Indian or an Indonesian or a Malawi or Bangladeshi, that is sheer forced STARVATION. It is sinister, it is intentional, it is slow and subtle GENOCIDE via EUGENICS. Georgia Guide Stones inscription: "REDUCE THE POPULATION OF THE WORLD TO 500 MILLION".

This truly is sad. The planet can so easily feed everybody and the eating habits of most North Americans at least are absolutely disgusting when you think about this. There are about 4 or 5 companies that own or control practically everything people eat here even though the vast majority of it is just garbage. I've been really avid about buying local and organic for the last couple years and have never felt better for it, although I'm really lucky to live where I do for this since it's usually cheaper on top of everything else.

exactly. americans throw out plates and plates of food on a daily basis. whilst Sudanese are literally eating dirt and tree bark.

Well for many Americans consuming what they do is akin to throwing it out as well, if only there were an easy way to just give it to the people who are starving in a place like Sudan. As things stand its really hard to get essential things anywhere in much of Africa even if enough people were aware and actively tried in some way. Sorry for being a douche again in the other thread btw Ive been drinking tonight.

Giving to charity has nothing to do with the G20 shirking its responsibilities and failing to reign in big finance. We all pay our taxes, we want to be represented. That means affordable food prices.

Have you seen me use the word "Hitler" in any of my posts? Nope.

But you throw him out there any time you can't answer a simple question and use only half a quote when you quote.

In extremely simple terms, I went shopping for a few food items in Emart today and my bill was 200,000 won. 1 and a half bags of very little and I was being gouged.

God knows what it is like for those on low incomes and more so for those in poorer countries.

We should be giving more to charity just because financial institutions are playing games with food? I am confused with how Ghost is thinking this through.

What is clear though is that it is out of control and the G20 simply doesn't think it is very important.

    Grow you'r own food.

March on the supermarkets, not the growers. But that's ok, dam them all right.

I live on the 10th floor, I rely on people growing food for me. I believe farmers should earn decent money and I believe in paying for food, but it should be down to natural supply and demand not excessive speculation which causes prices to spike beyond all sense of control. The issue is financial institutions, not farmers. Farmers are important and necessary.

It don't work that way miles. The less food on the market, the higher the prices go. More food in surplus means the price comes down.

Living on the 10th floor does not stop you from growing food, btw. It's called Square Foot Gardening. Had one when I lived in an apartment and have one now in the back yard.
