    Default The Irony of Apple

Is it just me or does anyone else find it ironic that Apple whose whole companies history has been built upon monetising the design work of others and was supposedly formed by a Buddhist with a hippy zen like counter culture being so litigious and corporate. For example

BBC News - Apple loses appeal over Galaxy Tab 10.1 in Dutch court

add to this the irony of Bill Gates philanthropy when everybody viewed him as the corporate antichrist, and the snobbery of many early Mac adopters and I have never really bought into the hype. I have friends in graphic design who have always swore by the macs stability and have met numerous producers who go on and on about the superiority of Logic and other mac music software as well as the stability issue but I just can't detach my own distaste for the companies exclusivity from any neutral appraisal of the platform.

I started off with a ZX81 and then A spectrum followed by a Commodore 64 and it was the 64 that first introduced me to the possibilities and usefulness of computers and music, I then moved onto an Amiga and loved the platform for writing and triggering music and for playing games and from there went to PC's. The point is there have been times when I could have afforded a mac but have always went the PC route (even in my I hate Bill Gates and his nicking Amiga workbench and calling it windows phase).

The i-pod and now the i-phone and i-pad whilst undoubtedly great bits of technology seem to attract a large percentage of adopters who just need to be seen with the latest gizmo and need to buy the concept of chic and it justs puts me off. That and the inflated price tag.

I have always hated Apple with an almost religious zeal. Mainly because my best mate is obsessed with apple and owns all their products.

He is almost as annoying as you and consequently I would sooner go without an mp3 player or tablet than buy anything that was from that awful company.

You have no idea how irritating it is therefore to learn that we are in complete agreement.

Are you saying that I'd throw you out?

I'm actually far more agreeable in person.

No I am saying as an agoraphobic baloney bopping short arsed 10 stone young earther you may suddenly have a change of attitude when our paths cross ( i'm on my way)

Seriously though I am sure you are a lovely chap I am surprised though that you didn't realise that I too am Devonian. I have always had the flag up above, have mentioned several times my Home city Plymouth, and even messaged you a while back to say how good it was to see westcountry legend Chris Sanigar recovering well enough from cancer to be manning the corner at the Lee Haskins prize fighter win, with Plymouth's Glyn Mitchell.

Oh God you live barely 30 miles away from me. I can see it now, it's our destiny to end up mates

Your football team is shit, enjoy the conference next year.

Actually I do remember getting a post about Chris Saniger. I must admit I had no fucking idea who you were then, and wondered how you knew I was from Devon.

The first time I noticed you on the board was the "what cooked foods do you eat raw" thread.

Where you seemed to argue that eating food raw was closer to what God intended, inferring that you chase swans round with a fork. I am sure the mighty greens can hang around in the football league for another 125 years and don't worry if you support any other team in our great county you will never be able to rival that.

Um something to do with the county flag above, maybe it's true what they say and it really does make you go blind.

I apologise if that smiley was in bad taste
