Default Interesting article on how much mayweather has earned compared to Pac

I completely agree this fight should be 50/50 down the middle so i'm not backing Floyd up with this but I am surprised at how much more Floyd has made in the last 6 years.

FIGHTHYPE \\ 50/50? WHY ARE PACQUIAO'S PURSES A FRACTION OF WHAT MAYWEATHER GETS?

I've never been one to care about how much fighters get paid. Especially prima donnas like Floyd.
    But....

#1- If the fight WERE to take place, why not 50/50? What's Floyd's issue with that? Is it an ego thing? Or does he REALLY need the money?

#2- MY conclusion from the article? Floyd's been grossly overpaid. Once the jump gets made to over $20 million, you've lost all grip on reality. The reality is that most of his recent fights have been disappointing in one way or another. But what the hell does he care? He's laughing all the way to the bank.

Floyd got 22.5 mill to fight Mosley and Pacquiao got 6 mill. Both Pac and Floyd are big names but why such a big difference?

Pac has a shit contract - But it also wouldn't surprise me if Uncie Bob was fiddling the money some how for tax purposes or to exploit some kind of loophole.

Pac Man said he was on a guaranteed minimum so he would never stay with Arum if he was getting less than Floyd. Pac Man is content to pick up big money to fight easy fights.

IIRC, the NYTimes did an article on this. Basically, Mayweather has a unique business operation.

He puts up his own money to pay the costs of the fight, including his opponents purse. If you fight him, you are essentially working for him. In return, he gets a cut of the revenue generated during the event: T-shirts, food, broadcasting rights, etc.

I'm not sure if that cut is part of the purse or if this is the arraignment he will have with Pac, but the point is he has to pay expenses out of his purse. Apparently, it works out rather well for him...as he has a revenue stream coming in for years.

Against Mosely, he refused to pay the sanctioning bodies, so it was a non-championship fight. Obviously, he realized a big name boxer does not necessarily need a belt to be considered the champ. So why pay for it?

Because fighters get paid in different ways. There's the purse, and then there are PPV revenues streams.

Pacquiao gets a small purse, and gets the majority of his earnings from the PPV money. It's for tax purposes.

Both Floyd and Manny are making 20+ million everytime they fight. It's just divided up in different ways.

Why did you think Floyd stopped working with Bob Arum?

Floyd would still make more money because they sell roughly the same amount of PPVs, unless Pacquiao's PPVs cost more in the US.

Floyd's fights actually sell more PPVs. And they cost the same in the US. $60 for HD; $50 for regular (previously 55/45).

It's not surprising to me that the fighter who is not in a long-term contract with a middleman makes more money. Floyd has leverage to negotiate terms with Golden Boy every time he has them do a one-off co-promotion with him. Pac has no leverage with Arum because the terms are already set.

Basically, Arum is pocketing a lot of money.

I am one of the guys that has to pay to see these two fight if they ever do and when I read a money post like this my eyes get misty and I don't give a rat's ass about the money. I just want to see the fight happen and no bullshit excuses when one of them loses. Although it would be nice to have some of their chump change I always remember paying to see Mike Tyson and wondering where 329 million dollars went and I worry about my mortgage. Things change and these dys, the banks don't make change so if they fight and get paid today then at least give us fans something for the memory book. Don''t profile like Haye did.

In no way shape or form is Floyd overpaid. How exciting he is is irrelelvant. What matters is how much he draws, and Floyd draws A LOT of fuckin money.

The difference is, like he has bragged out so many times, is that he gets to keep a larger share of the money generated than his peers because his management does a hell of a job.
