I saw a lot of people on twitter saying this might be a possibility? I don't think Mayorga deserves ANOTHER shot, but he does sell tickets. I would prefer Canelo to unify, it would be better for him to go for another belt.

Was just going to put this up myself!
Mayorga needs to be kept busy before he jumps in with top fighters. I like Mayorga and want to see him give his best effort even if its in losing. I dont care about Canelo. Hopefully if the fight does get signed which we all know Mayorga would jump at the chance and not back out like Bika, then hopefully he can get a little warm up bout inbetween.
Hopefully his twitterr accountbis real and he ally did ask Ariza to work with him and he comes in like a steam train!![]()
I thought Mayorga had called it a day.
A few years ago this would have been a good war but don't see Mayorga being able to do much against Canelo now. He might get lucky and catch Canelo then jump on him and force the ref to jump in but it's very unlikely.
Saul Alvarez vs. Gabriel Rosado: 5 Reasons This Fight Needs to Happen | Bleacher Report
Here's someone's take on who should be the next opponent for Canelo, who according to the author, has "feasted on smaller and older men".
Ricardo Mayorga needs to figure out if he's retired or not and if he's not he needs to fight more often, because sitting around and waiting for someone to call you out so you can get your ass beat isn't a great way to make money.
38-year-old Mayorga a possibility for Canelo Alvarez on 9/15
This guy's even rougher on Canelo, saying out loud what some of us already think..... that Canelo hasn't fought any worthy challengers, and should be ashamed if he seriously considers fighting the over-the-hill Mayorga. Not that I wouldn't want Mayorga to KTFO him with a lucky shot, but that's the only way he would win. I hope they're not serious.
With the numerous available options, Mayorga is a poor choice. Seriously, there are at least four boxers that are preferable.
Unfortunately I agree with your assessment. Mayorga is faded and has been far too inactive as Lyle said. He gets no tune up bouts in the last 7 years outside of the Eric Mitchell and Michael Walker fights.
As Titofan posted Gabriel Rosado would be an excellent choice as he is on a roll and has really improved since his 2 round TKO loss to Angulo a few years ago.
Mayorga would probably sell more tickets than any other available opponent and that means he is near the top of the list.
However, I'll be a lil surprised if Mayorga gets the shot.
"You knocked him down...now how bout you try knockin me down ?"
Stupid fight for Saul. If he wins, he beat up an old guy. If he loses, he lost to an old guy. It's not a fight I'd pay to see. It just does not interest
me.
Mayorga might be good for laughs if this fight was on CBS Saturday afternoon for free. But as a serious chance for him winning I'd say no. This isn't even cherry picking. It's spoon feeding Camelo. What happened? Yori Boy Campas isn't available?

As much as I enjoy watching Mayorga get the shit beaten out of him, surely there is a better and more active opponent out there for Canelo. I'd really like to see him fight JCC jr. That isn't going to happen until they are both bigger names though. If they keep going this could be a real world wide mega fight in 2-3 years IMO.
I never thought I would be thinking of jr as a true champion but he's beginning to win me over and I don't think I'm the only one. I don't like how much he is being linked with steroids though.
You mean the Mosley who dominated and KO'd Mayorga when they fought (in one of the three fights Mayorga has been in in the last 4 years)? Mosley is at least a likely HOFer and was coming off of back-to-back fights (albeit pathetic "efforts") against the top 2 p4p guys in the world; Mayorga wasn't close to great even at his prime and is coming off of losses to Mosley and Cotto and a win over world-beater "Michael Walker." And he's even worse-preserved than Mosley.
Cotto, Lara, and Kirkland, in that order, are the fights they should try to make (they should try harder with Kirkland if the alternative is really a sideshow act like a shot Mayorga).
I seriously doubt there's any truth to this rumor.
Mayorgas 15 minutes expired along time ago.
