Floyds prime is nowhere near 154. He's a lightweight at his best or 5 pounds south. Winky was a welter. They could have never met prime wise.

Counterpunching Floyd vs. defensive wizard Winky?

Let me put it this way. Your forum name is "Sleepwalker".
Which is exactly what I would be doing on my way to turn off the TV set.

Haha, I agree there's every chance it would be dull, but Winky wasn't the defensive wizard many make him out to be. Mayweather is a hell of a lot harder to hit, and Wright would've been the agressor in this one of course due to his size. I'd imagine Floyd would pot shot his way to a close decision, but I could actually see Winky having some of the same success that Cotto did in spots. He was a much bigger and stronger man at his best and had a very good jab, I couldn't see Floyd backing him up or managing to stay off the ropes for the whole fight. If both men were truly in their best form and fought at a catchweight of 150, say, it would be an excellent technical fight at least.

The level that Winky was slept on at 154 was a flat out shame. He was not your typical "backfoot" defensive wiz but a up close sort, elbows tucked in ribs and stepped ahead behind thick jab. I think it comes down to Mayweather (at best) having the mobility and legs to choose points of attack.

Bring coffee...red bull...and coke to stay awake but Floyd on points.

Winkys jab was one of the best in the biz, would be a toss up for me honestly

Truly a horrible fight, who's going through the first punch I can see it now waiting 4 round's for the first jab to land.

They actually talked about this years ago. Floyd was at 140 during that time. Floyd wanted Winky to do a same day weight in.

I remember watching Floyd fight Oscar and noticing how unusually inaccurate Floyd was (by his own standards) and how Oscar was able to validate his game plan of walking Floyd down, hands high, taking Floyds pot-shoting off the gloves... I was thinking that Winky - who is naturally bigger than Oscar, has a better defence, a much better jab and is a SOUTHPAW - would have implemented Oscars game plan superbly.

winky's jab would have controlled the fight.

I think winky would win because he's just larger and floyd, even though he has fought at 154, isn't a natrual jr middleweight and that makes all the difference when you're fighting one who is.

An ugly close UD by winky.

Floyd by very boring but clear cut decision.

Winky had a great jab but Floyd's speed would be the difference. Neither would come close to doing actual damage to the other.

    Excellent post.

Floyd was very weary of Oscar and fought him scared, but still outpointed him 8-4 on my card. Some had it 7-5.

Its conceivable that a 154 lb Wright could walk Floyd down and beat him for a decision, but he also may have simply been too slow to catch him.

Agreed, Floyd also had to be weary because at that point Oscar still had a great left hook. Against Winky he could have engaged more readily without the chance of getting seriously hurt by one shot.
