    Default Chest Injury From Sparring

I've gotten back into boxing after a long break (5ish years), and am supposed to have my first fight since then this weekend. Last week I took a mean body shot that I felt throughout the weekend. I thought it was just going to bruise and would be no big deal, but today I took another body shot in exactly the same spot and it really hurt. It winded me to the point that I almost took a knee, and I didn't throw any punches for a good 30 seconds. This was about an hour ago and it hurts when I take a deep breath and really hurts when I cough. Unfortunately it also hurts when I throw punches.

I've hurt an intercostal muscle before and it feels similar to that, except this time its in a different spot (it's right on my heart/under my man boob). The sources I've read usually say intercostal muscles are hurt from twisting in weird ways and such, but I'd imagine they can happen from a punch as well? I don't know what I'm looking for by posting here but I'm just worried that this stupid injury will prevent me from fighting my big comeback that I've been training so hard for (the last intecostal problem I had took forever to heal properly). Has anyone else had an injury like this? I'm going to go see a physician tomorrow.
    Hi

I've had a similar injury just prior to fight time. You are already doing the most important thing, which is going to see a doc to rule out anything dangerous or fractured. If it is just muscular, then you have to ask yourself these basic questions, does it affect my breathing and will I be able to withstand the pain? In my case adrenaline took over at fight time and was like it never existed until about a day after the fight. And then it hurt like a sunnamabitch for a few more weeks and lingered longer. But you can rest then so healing gets a lot easier.

Could be a bruised rib, those are very painful.
