Got a call from a good friend who had an extra ticket to tonights fight so we show up to the arena and boxing promoter Sam Watson was real cool with us and hooked us up to get in.
We actually walked to his dark blue Bentley to get something from there. Real cool man and funny to talk to.
To my surprise the arena was not completely packed I would say about 75% full. I was sitting front row right behind Bertos corner. We got there when the Jermell Charlo & Dashon Johnson fight started it was a decent scrap thought Jermell looked a bit sluggish. Would have wanted him to work the body more.
The CQ fight was okay I guess I mean CQ really doesn't have it anymore. Also is just me or was that body shot that Thurman hit him with a carbon copy of the shot Cotto also dropped him with? I thought that was pretty crazy how it was very identical.
Thurman has good power and tools to work with needs some polishing still.
As for the main event I wanna see it on TV, will probably watch it tomorrow morning. I thought Guerrero won the early rounds and then I thought Berto was landing the more telling shots through the middle rounds. They were far and few while Guerrero was more active and working. As the fight wore on I thought Guerreros active hands were giving him the edge. I also think he closed out stronger.
Some side notes:
- Max Kellerman enjoys watching the untelevised/non working fights from a few rows down so he can see better.
- Chris Arreola looks pretty slim.
- Pablo Cesar Canos nasty cut is healing well.
- Mia St. John is still fucken hot.
- Artist Baby Bash was ringside enjoy the fights.
- Eric Gomez (matchmaker of GBP) brought down to front row a "Canelo" look alike. It was fucken hilarious seeing all the people cheering for him. He even introduced several people to him and they thought he was "Canelo".
- Josesito Lopez is one real chill guy. We sat next to him and his wife/girlfriend.
- Joel De La Hoya Sr. as always very charismatic was sitting right behind us. Shouting throughout the fights and providing entertainment.
- Marcos Maidana very cool guy. We talked about soccer and about his compatriots in the boxing game.
- Aber Mares very humble and very quiet as usual. Congratulated him on his great win.
- Adrien Broner flashy and doing his thing. Not sure if they televised his little performance in the ring with some others guys but that shit sucked balls. No lie. De La Hoya Sr. was like "What the fuck is this? I can't understand anything their saying"
- I'm not sure if it was Bertos wife/girlfriend, sister or mom but a girl went off as soon as the fight ended. She stood right beside me and just started yelling at Bertos dad and the corner. She yelled "Eff that. Eff that. Eff that. I told you guys. I told you guys. Someone should have said something. You guys knew and nobody said anything. I'm not coming to another one of his fights if you don't change his trainer. Who taught him to hold and punch? That's not his style. You know damn well he's better than that. If you don't change his trainer I'm never coming to another one of his fights again. How the hell he get beat this easy? He got beat easy. That guys not even on his level and he got beat by him" she kept yelling and yelling while Bertos dad and the rest of the Berto camp tried to calm her down. I have video of this. Will see if I upload it tomorrow.
Overall it was a great fight and a great night for me as well...
