    Thumbs up Front news page

Hello guys I am one of the main writers for Saddoboxings front news page. I was wondering what you guys think of the content myself and the team provide? Pre/post fight coverage, news, press releases.

We are pondering some plans for the new year already but please if you have any ideas, concerns or questions please post here if you'd like and I will run them up with the editor.

Thanks, to the best boxing community.

I'll be honest man I don't even read it. I hate the layout of the site and would much prefer it if it was a list of headlines were you can click on the artciles you wish to read. As it is I think other sites are way ahead of the game as they're much more accessable.

The very first time I came here I saw the front page and honestly didn't recongnize many fighters at all mentioned in the articles. It seemed heavily geared for fans across the pond, which I totally get. It looks to have more variety now, though I usually have everything linked straight to 'Forums'.

Thanks for reaching out. I have looked at the news page and like it.
I want to see something about managers and promoters and how they do what they do. General stuff, anything that will educate us here at
    Saddoboxing.
A series on why things happen the way they do in boxing is something I would appreciate.
    Thanks

Lol. No but I get what you guys are saying about accessibility on the site and the layout, That can only be fixed in certain ways but I'll take it up with the saddos.

About articles I must say also I am one of the first American writers at Saddoboxing. We have a few of course but the vast majority of our active around 10 writer squad is based the UK. One of the sites "veterans" Jane Warburton does brilliant at getting photos and articles published every week in the United Kingdom. But that may not help Americans in full. I hope we can patch that hole in 2013 as much as possible.

To fully conclude my question may I ask what exactly would make you guys begin to actively view the news articles on saddoboxing? I will begin to link stories here in the forum and in 2013 speed up general news production once things get going.

Thanks, any and all responses are helpful.

I am glad, and again if all goes as planned expect even more in 2013.

Sounds good. Could be a monthly report. Done by me or switching with other writers. Thanks for feedback.

I hate to have to agree as it seems almost blasphemous and heretical but the layout/typesetting and general appearance of the main site makes it very difficult to peruse. The quirky graphics and colour scheme add to the charm of the forum and while it would be nice to keep this place as a rare gem, with such a diverse membership posting on so many subjects with great humour, knowledge and vivacity it would not exist without the main site. Saddo and the writers on the main site deserves more consistent visitors and the very fact that many of us on here, who are by default boxing nuts, do not frequent the main site flags up a real problem. A more modern and subtle font set would help to make the pages easier on the eye but the heading styles and logos etc would all benefit from an overhaul, and a more obvious hierarchical structure. At the moment it looks dated and amateurish and the casual browser could be forgiven for thinking that the coverage and journalism within was of a similar quality. Presentation is the key and a gradient or plain background, punctuated with a couple clear striking photographs would help achieve a more engaging experience. I realise the rights to many big fight photos may make them prohibitive but a couple of suitable stock images cropped, from Jane and your other photographers work would serve the same purpose. The headings on the left hand index box need to be if not Capitalised at least uniform and less borders and outlines around stuff. Less is more and the page just seems way to busy. It's a pity because there is some great writing on the pages present but it is difficult to navigate and the news update process seems a little hap hazard.

My big issue with it is that it seems to be slow in coming up with the news. I've come here the morning after a big fight and the main headline is still "Fighter A and Fighter B square off tonight". Like a lot of posters here, I just bypass the front page into the forum. If you're not immediately up to date on the news, people will just go elsewhere for their news and just use the forum.

I agree also that the format is very boring. One of my favorite news sites is Sherdog.com (for MMA). If you go there, you immediately see a compelling picture for the big story, and headlines below so you can choose an article you are interested in reading about.

I like it because its not a bunch of glitter and shit. Just the facts Jack. Its heavy on the British scene but that's understandable and the Uk domestic scene does lay waste the rest of the planet. I would imagine the time difference has much to do with coverage so maybe more North American guys could submit write-ups. I've always liked the newspaper headline border.

Well to be fair the website I mentioned (sherdog.com), there was a new years eve MMA show in Japan, but because of the time different it started at like 4 in the morning in North America. They had full coverage (pre, during and post) up right away.

I'm a camera man/editor for a local news station here, and I know full well we have to have the scoop before the other local station or we lose the ratings. They really should have people dedicated to getting that big fight coverage up right away.
