Default UFC 159: Jones vs Sonnen (tomorrow)

    Main Card

    Jon Jones vs Chael Sonnen
    Alan Belcher vs Michael Bisping
    Roy Nelson vs Cheick Kongo
    Phil Davis vs Vinny Magalhaes
    Pat Healey vs Jim Miller

call me crazy, i think sonnen will bring it like he did with anderson silva, but what's jones' reach, like 81" or something like that... will be tough for sonnen. my head says jones, but my boner-for-a-good-fight-to-make-gif's says sonnen ... lol at me. sonnen during interviews admitted he thinks jones > anderson silva. he may have mentally lost the fight already, but then again, i think he has nothing to lose and will def bring it.

roy nelson by overhand right. liked kongo in the past, but he's fighting big country. who doesn't like big country? looking for fireworks from this fight. nelson has shown he has a chin in addition to ko power from his right. you know he's a black belt in bjj, so kongo doesn't want to go to the ground, think nelson will keep it standing up though.

kind of know these fighters: belcher vs bisping... think belcher will tag the speedy footwork of bisping at some point. not a huge fan of either. got no horse in this race.

the rest i really don't know well enough

Chael will come out on fire and push the pace but lets be serious, he can't strike with Jones and I doubt he is going to be able to keep the fight on the ground. I won't be surprised if he scores a take down but I don't think he has a chance of keeping Jon down. I'm calling a 2nd round KO for the Champ.

Bisping REALLY needs this win and while he hasn't fared well against the upper crust of the division he has been more consistent than Belcher. I predict Bisping fights a very conservative ground based fight in route to a close decision

Roy by monster punch in the 3rd.

    Phil by GnP

    Jim Miller by late sub

I agree but it would be nice to see Sonnen give Jones a real test by lasting into round 4 or 5.
I know, that's not going to happen. I think Jones has been waiting to get his hands on Sonnen since the Henderson fiasco in UFC 151.

I have to agree with pretty much all of your picks.

Sonnen CAN'T win this fight. He Mayorga'd his way into this shit.

I'll be surprised if Sonnen has any success outside of maybe the first round.

Bisping should win by a solid margin, he is a top contender.

I agree with Nelson KO'n Kongo. Fat man can punch.

I have Miller winning via sub

Bisping winning by decision *hopefully I'm wrong*

Roy Nelson over hand right KO 1st round

Jon Jones winning by strikes 2nd round. (Hopefully I'm wrong here I like Chael he's a badass)

PS: Chael did not talk his way into this fight everyone in the Light HeavyWeight divison did not want to step in and fight Jones on short notice Dana said it himself so Chael stepped in... Chael is a top guy I think Silva got lucky on both fights.. the 2nd Chael fucked up with that back spinning fist.. but oh well...

I also agree with the Thread Poster ... something left a bitter taste in my mouth when Chael was complimenting Jones saying he's the best ever like dude sounded like he mentally lost the fight.. kinda how everyone was scared of Uriah then went and self destruct aka Bubba... His quote (btw a bad ass one) "I may go down but if I do I will go down like a gangster and I'll be shooting the entire time" bad ass quote but maybe he should not be thinking about him going down.. anyways man can't wait

So some weird things happened. Pat Healy looked way bigger and stronger than Miller and simply ground him up like Miller normally does to his opponents. I'm not sure if Phil's striking looked so good b/c Vinny pretty much stood there and got punched in the face or if he has just gotten a lot better; regardless, Vinny's game plan or lack of one was pretty bush league. If you are a BJJ guy you better have a plan to get the fight on the ground. Roy was...well Roy. It will be real interesting to see how he fairs against Hunt or Cormier. He could probably take Hunt down and either get a sub or grind out a win but I imagine they stand in the middle and trade bombs till someone dies. Cormier offers great hand speed and wrestling which I'd be interested in seeing how Roy counters. As much as I like seeing him and his beer belly knock out guys with 6-pack abs I am with Dana and would really like to see what Roy could do if he dropped 40 pounds. I was surprised after how well Okami controlled Belcher that Bisping didn't look to take the fight to the ground but hey he got it done. I hope Belcher gets cut. The guy is good but this is two fights in a row where he showed up looking woefully unprepared for his opponent. Jones looked fantastic last night. The ease with which he picked up and dropped Chael was really impressive.
