I watched the tyson v lennox fight, and after the fight they refer to him as a boxer-puncher
Is that a combination of a boxer and a slugger? What kind of a fighting style did he have? (Im relatively new to boxing)
Thanks![]()

Not necessarily a slugger but a natural boxer with power. Either slugging power (Foreman) or hit you with 3-4 punches an KO you (Swarmer) power (Pac). A boxer with KO ability.
Nonetheless at the roots a boxer.
Some say the boxer-puncher is the hybrid 4th style of boxing.
look up lewis' ko of rahman in their second fight. one of the hardest punches ive seen!
Lewis is my favorite hw of all time. He was the complete package.
He was one of those guys who weren't appreciated enough while active but everytime I watch his career set, I appreciate him more and more.
Steward trained lewis would beat every hw in the historey of boxing. People put a prime tyson on that invincible status but lewis would have beaten any version of him.
Lewis would have knocked Joe Louis the fuck out in 5 rounds or less and guys like marciano and frazier would have got carried out on a stretcher.
Lewis was a great boxer with an excellent amateur background and yeah when he took revenge on Rahman he seriously banged him out with a huge right hand.
Avenged all his loses and there was never any trouble or personal shit with Lennox inside or outside the ring.
Boxer/puncher sums him up perfectly and he was a great tactician too.
Helps he had Steward with him largely but Lennox remains one of my all time favourite fighters![]()
Yep defo top 5 all time HW for me.
People starting to appreciate him more and more. Lost to a freak punch from McCall (could he have carried on not sure ??) and lost for being a lazy bastard against Rahman - though the rematch proves the gulf in class.
Up there with Benn and Gatti as my favourite ever fighters (witnessed in my lifetime)
Don't bully fat kids - they've got enough on their plate
Id have loved Tyson Fury to get a shot at a prime Lewis.
Lennox was robotic at the end of it.... def a boxer-puncher. He had massive power and when he hit you, and was accurate, more than likely it was lights out.
Lennox also set up his punches more than anyone else I have seen in the HW division.
To give comparison- Riddick Bowe was puncher-boxer. More like a slugger-boxer. Riddick boxed when after he found out he couldn't blast away guys at the top of the division.
Larry Holmes was a boxer-hitter. Holmes wasn't a big puncher, he just hit you repeatedly after he put you in position.
Holyfield was a counter puncher-boxer. Evander was a crap boxer. But he had fast hands and countered you with heavy hands. This is why Evander couldn't win against Lennox- Lennox gave him nothing hit as Lennox was an excellently skilled boxer. And, when Holyfield tried to turn it up, when he could, he got hit and hit hard- so, it eased his attack.
Bigger man George, bigger punch!

Lennox was probably Canada's greatest ever boxer.
What kind of boxer was Lennox Lewis - a fucking good one is the answer.
For me he beats any other former champion best of 3 fights.
Great champion and must be acknowledged as one of the greatest HW champs in the history of the sport.
Barring his two lapses against Rahman and McCall (which he paid for dearly), he was very close to being the perfect HW fighter. He would give his opponents no chance, and forced everyone to fight him on his terms.
He could play it safe and stink out the joint if he needed to (Tua), but if he thought he could get you out of there he had an incredible nasty side, and he could take a top-ranked HW and just brutalize him and get him out of there early.
