Hey guys I was watching fights in espn and seen a guy throw a uppercut with his thumb pointed towards him almost? Is this a liable punch or was it just out of mistake? I googled some uppercut variations regarding this and here's a pic of what I'm talking about? Does anyone know of this punch?

this is not pure uppercut, this is more a shovel hook.

Not bad in the situation amateur with giant gloves. He fitted in between the guys arms better.
You'd bust your little finger if you did it bare fists though.

A different upper cut not used much is turn the rear foot pointed away from target and rip one up as you switch weight, you'd have think about when you could use that and how to position fast to follow up. One eg, against a tall leaner would be safer.

    I can explain it.
